With a Chilean father and French mother, Jessi’s early memories of music are a somewhat eclectic blend. As a little girl, Jessi began each Saturday morning in the lounge room rummaging through her parents vinyl collection, her mother’s Edith Piaf, her father’s Santana. She listened to each record at a time, methodically going through their collection. Jessi remembers those Saturday mornings with fondness, the way she sometimes listened so intently, studying the lyrics on the inside of the album cover or other times she danced about the room, shaking her hips to the Latin rhythms. But before Jessi ever had the chance to complete her task, her father banned her from using the record player - three broken needles was enough he said. Luckily instead, her dad bought her a mini red tape deck, so Jessi finally started her own music collection and in the solitude of her room discovered the likes of Michael Jackson, The Pretenders, and The Eurythmics.
By the time Jessi was ten her parents bought her an electric keyboard decked out in red metallic gloss and only two octaves long. Despite the fact she could only play with one hand Jessi loved that keyboard and spent many hours tinkering along to her favourite melodies. Many years later, the red keyboard long forgotten, Jessi discovered the guitar and found a passion for writing her own songs. Perhaps like any artist, Jessi’s inspiration emerges from her everyday living. She writes what she feels. She writes what she sees.
“The world is full of interesting and diverse stories and that’s what I am always looking for, sometimes intentionally, other times accidental”.
Together with her bass player Tom, she looks forward to creating a band to showcase her music to the public.
