Soothing ballads, catchy lyrics and melodies, shy stage patter, corny and quirky kind of humor, almost cute sense of style ... that's a little preview of what you would expect at a show where Jessica Millete was performing. People actually sing along to her songs, which is basically all she needs.

Biography

The first time Jessica Millete performed a song where she was singing and playing guitar, it was her first time ever doing that; keep in mind, she had a bad case of stage fright, the audience count was about 500, and she dedicated it to someone special because that song was written for him. That was the beginning for soon-to-be-locally-well-known singer/songwriter Jessica Millete.

Inspired by that special someone's encouragement and passion for music, her family and friends, and many years of piano lessons, Jessica continued to learn guitar and grow in her efforts to write her own compositions.

Having written personal songs, people have been able to relate easily. She has captured the attention of ages ranging from young to old, residents from coast to coast and beyond, and styles different as night and day.

She has performed all over the Hampton Roads area of VA, Seattle, Atlanta, and the Philippines ... in coffee shops, restaurants, fairs, festivals, schools, national conventions, talent shows, fundraisers, birthday/graduation parties, etc.

Though sometimes shy on stage, she's the quirky, talented, loveable musician from Virginia Beach. Previously known as the "Filipino Michelle Branch," this girl will be going places.

Jessica Millete currently attends Virginia Commonwealth University, majoring in Graphic Design and Minoring in Music.

P.S. Flava Flav even said, "She kinda short, kinda fly ... waaaaow, Flava of Love 5!" and "You're slammin!" to her .. not to mention he gave her a kiss on the cheek. This happened at her college's talent show which can be viewed here: http://youtube.com/watch?v=fuUfVjrfrR8

Lyrics

Our Fallen Star

Written By: Jessica Millete

what's the point in trying if you're not even here
how can my heart move on when i still feel the way i do for you
got side tracked and distracted
maybe i overreacted
when i saw her by your side last night

call me jealous go ahead
i can admit to it
words cant explain the pain i experienced
seeing you kissing her as if you were kissing me
it's like everything we've been through didn't mean anything at all to you

why can't i just pick up and leave
yesterday it sounded so easy
why can't i just forget about all
the hurt you caused me
this is my fall

you brought me down
further and further into the ground
it's not like you meant to it was all unintentional
i mean, who would want to do something so regretful
something you'd hate yourself for
and i thought i knew you so well

why can't i just pick up and leave
yesterday it sounded so easy
why can't i just forget about all
the hurt you caused me
this is my fall

can you tell me why we couldn't last? (where did we go wrong?)
can you tell me why you gave up so fast? (you couldn't hold on)
i'd like to know, i'd like to know why (please can you tell me why?)
why i still cry while you're on my mind?

why can't i just pick up and leave
yesterday it sounded so easy
why can't i just forget about all
the hurt you caused me
this is my fall

oh yeah
you brought me down
and you brought me down
now i fall
this is my fall

Hearts & Kites

Written By: Jessica Millete

sittin alone on a high hill
waitin for you to come near
and ask if i would enjoy
flying a kite

its a nice and breezy day
but i cant find the words to say
i wanna tell ya, i wanna tell ya
that i want you to stay
if thats okay

so please i beg you not to go
because this is what ive been waitin for
youre going to set me free, oh and i do believe
that im ready to let go

slowly but surely yeah im a little shy
cant help but sigh when you walk by
ill bake you cookies and promise that
ill stand by your side

mm baby, youre brilliant to me
to the whole world, cant you see?
you dazzle and you shine,
enchant me with your luminosity

so please i beg you not to go
because this is what ive been waitin for
youre going to set me free, oh i do believe
that im ready to let go

Don't Play with Me

Written By: Jessica Millete

baby what you doin over there
and boy you're not acting fair
come over right next to me
and tell me what do you see
don't play don't lie
don't cheat don't fight
you better keep it real
don't play with me

i see you eyein her
with her dress all short
and her hair all curled
if youre with me youre with me
there ain't no inbetweens
yeah i know she's fine but i'm
the one and boy you're mine

baby you gonna run cuz youre scared
gonna leave every thing that we shared
for a young little girl
let the lies unfurl
now im no fool and ive been schooled
so don't even try to play it cool
you better keep it real
don't play with me

chorus

baby no matter what you do
i find myself going back to you
it's like you want to see me hurt
my hearts in pain now throw it in the dirt
don't ask i'm fine
can you see right through
can't you tell i'm lyin
so i'm gonna keep it real
boy don't play with me

chorus

Set List

If given a 45 minute set, 8 songs are usually performed: 6 original, 2 covers. If it's a shorter set, there is probably only one cover saved for the end. Cover songs are crucial in a set list for it is important that the audience sings along or is somehow involved even if it's just a spark of bittersweet nostalgia.

She is known to have done covers of Lisa Loeb, Oasis, The Beatles, Regina Spektor, Yeah Yeah Yeah's, Meg & Dia, Saves the Day, Taking Back Sunday, The Early November, The Cardigans, Bic Runga, Straylight Run, The Veronicas, TLC, Kanye West, Rachael Yamagata, Gregory and the Hawk, Eisley, Ben Folds Five, Coldplay, etc.
