Bio

Jessica Sokolove

Musical expression has always been the driving force in Jessica Sokolove’s trek of life. Jessica sprouted in to the world of music from a family of classical musicians and jazz lovers - a unique mix that would provide her a balance of structure and precision mixed with freeform and fearlessness to her ear. At seven years old in the basement of her home in the suburbs of Maryland she began experimenting with the piano. Jessica was born with an ear precise enough to convince her piano teacher into thinking, for months, that he had taught her to become an avid note reader. Upon realizing that he had been fooled, she was fired as his student, and her alternative musical learning process began to rapidly develop. At twelve, she picked up her father’s acoustic nylon string guitar, which immediately became her home base for songwriting and musical experimentation.

Despite appearances and below the free and experimental surface of Jessica’s musical “hobbies” was an undeniable underbelly of terror that would lock her world of music behind closed doors for years to come. Her songwriting advanced behind these doors and her joy of composition was kept under wraps for the fear of merely being asked what she had to show for it.

Years later, Jessica packed up her life, music, and all her little fears, and moved to Los Angeles. Her creative library began bursting at the seams and the pressure of it was beginning to outweigh the fear of exposure. It was right around this time that she met jazz drummer Billy Kilson, who would become her mentor as well as the hand that would help pull her out of the ground, treasure chest and all, dust her off, and show her how to acknowledge that she was, in fact, a musician in this world. Quite a feat.

Jessica has been working closely with producer, Lee Curreri, for the past three years and performing all over Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, and Berlin. She has just plunged full time into her music career, and is currently working on a series of collaborative and promotional music projects with Kabunk Records, joining local artists with name artists to support various humanitarian and social causes.
