Jessie Murphy

BandEDMSinger/Songwriter

Jessie Murphy combines her love of dynamic pop melodies with the lyrical savy of a native New Yorker. Her inventive guitar grooves and catchy beats create unique back drop for her velvet soft yet confident vocals. Think Beth Orton meets Belle and Sebastian on Avenue A and Metric buys the drinks.

In the past year Jessie was dubbed a “winning singer-songwriter” by The New Yorker and featured in an article in the London Guardian on the New York City music scene.

There You Are

There You Are
copyright Jessie Murphy 2005

Verse:
There you are
trying so hard to be true
and still without your mother baby

There you are
loving someone new
feeling like you’re undercover

Chorus:
I’m the girl in the bar
holding the door for you
Take a look
Take a look my way

I’m the girl in the bar
holding it all for you (fixing the score for you) (holding a torch for
you)
take a look
take a look my way

Verse 2:
There you are
listening to someone’s songs
thinking that you’re too outrageous

There you are
fearing there’s something wrong
something inbetween your pages

Chorus:
I’m the girl in the bar
holding the door for you
take a look
take a look my way
I’m the girl in the bar
only with eyes for you (holding a torch for you)
take a look
take a look my way

Bridge:
On any given day
these are the blues I play
On any given day
I’m not the things I say
On any given day
I’m breaking like a wave

Verse 3:
There you are
waiting for a call
thinking that they’ve lost your number
There you are
staring down the wall
feeling like you’re going under

Chorus:
I’m the girl in the bar
holding the door for you
take a look
take a look my way
I’m the girl in the bar
holding a song for you
take a look
take a look my way

I’m the girl
there you are

Room Alone

Written By: Jessie Murphy

1st Chorus:
I'm in my room alone at night
that's how I like to spend my time
anxiety attacks
I watch my white walls fade to black

I'm in my room alone at night
I think of you just once or twice
I watch myself go down
the darkest road
without your love for light

Don't go

1st Verse:
Oh the first time that I ever saw your face I was held
in the cradle of your presence

Oh the first time that I ever saw your face I was held
and I stood and waited for your love

to comfort me and take me over

Chorus 2:
I'm in my room alone at night that's how I like to spend my time

I'm in my room alone at night
I think of you just once or twice
I watch myself give up
the only thing I ever new was mine

Oh no

Verse 2:
BUt I'm a strong girl
I'm a big girl
I'm a big girl now
just like on those tracks by Dylan

I'm a dream girl
I'm a scene girl
I'm the sweetest girl around

Ask any man on the street
and he'll tell you I've been faithful

Chorus 3:
I'm in my room alone at night that's how I like to spend my time

oh baby help me

Bridge:
Don't make me give up my vision of you
It's all that I have left now Darling

Don't make me give up my vision of you

It's all that I can see my love

Don't make me give up this vision of you

It's all that I have left my Love

Last Chorus:
I'm in my room alone at night
that's how I like to spend my time
anxiety attacks
I watch my white walls fade to black

I'm in my room alone at night
I think of you just once or twice

I know the darkest hour
is always just before the morning light

and that's how I like to spend my time
