"Jess Rousse brings some New Orleans flavor to Orlando"

If you haven’t heard of her, theres a good chance you will. Her name is Jessica Rousse. She is a New Orleans native musician who is currently circulating the Orlando area bar scene. She is a talented piano player, but what is really special about her is her voice. Her vocals are smooth and soulful yet at times can be powerful enough to make the room shake. I had the pleasure of watching her perform for the first time last night at Tom and Jerry’s in Winter Park. And she blew my mind. She played some original songs but also threw in some impressive versions of R&B legend Bill Withers’ “Ain’t No Sunshine” and Rock N’ Roll pioneer Chuck Berry’s “Jonny B. Goode.”

Jess has been performing solo for a while now, but in the near future she will begin performing with a full band. February 10th will be her first show and it will be at Backbooth in downtown Orlando. I think anyone who can attend should. Im sure it is going to be awesome.

And this is only the beginning for Jess. Expect more great things from her in the future. She will be recording her debut album soon to. So look out for that.

Bio

Jess hails from one of the many bayous in the New Orleans area. Because of where she grew up, music was a very dominating force early in her life; picking up playing piano while in diapers and writing her first song at age 11.

Etta James, Janis Joplin, and Muddy Waters were major influences of hers, as well as a blues bands that played at the Market Café off of Canal Street in downtown New Orleans. Music was just a hobby for her parents, but she credits them as being a couple of the greatest musicians to ever live.

After hoping for change in her musical career, Jess moved to Orlando, Florida in pursuit of musical success. Fate stepped in, and in a very short period of time she was introduced to her manager Erin Hinojos, who became the support system she needed. Erin and Jess began working together, and started writing music. Bringing in a band mate from another local band, Erin introduced Guillermo Rodriguez to Jess, and the 3 began to write music together, soon after bringing in Reid Arnstein on drums.

The 4 have since been working on Jessica’s debut EP which will be out in Spring 2010.
