Bio

J.Halkz biography

“If I let the rain stop me from making it,

I won’t ever make it anywhere”.

This quote came from Buffalo, New York native J.Halkz while selling his CDs at a local gas station on a rainy day. Growing up in an environment where you have to strive to survive, he started selling his CDs at local gas stations. He may have moved from Buffalo, but his drive, persistence, dedication and motivation has been with him since that rainy day at the gas station and can be seen worldwide.

Born and raised in Buffalo, J.Halkz has been perfecting his craft on stage, as well as in the studio producing and engineering records. Growing up in a hip-hop dominated era, he learned about independent labels that laid down the blueprint for success. He released his first solo project “Now or Never” at age 19, producing some of the tracks he rapped over in the process. After selling over 5,000 copies one by one from those gas stations, he started taking trips to nearby cities with nothing more than a duffle bag full of CDs and the determination to sell them all.

His next project, “How 2 Grind”, earned Halkz a trip to Diddy’s own “Daddy’s House Recording Studio” in New York City, working with one of hip-hop’s well known producers, Stevie J. The brief experience years ago opened his eyes to where his music could take him.

J.Halkz has gone on to perform at shows across the country, including SOB’s and Webster Hall in NYC to Compound in Atlanta. His collective, Yacht Club Music Group, has been featured on XM/Sirius Shade 45’s Big Sunday Show, as well as radio stations Hot97 and POWER105.1. He has been featured in popular magazines XXL and Hip Hop Weekly, among many others. And has also collaborated with Exclusiv Vodka being featured in their “Holiday Party” National Ad Campaign.

While preparing for his latest solo release, “The Secret”, J.Halkz is proud to say he hasn’t forgot where he came from.

“I got an award from the Buffalo Hip Hop Awards for my music. In my hometown, you can hear me on the radio. Buffalo has my back, and I’ve got them on mine.”
