JIGA-VÔO: A BOOTY-SHAKING IRRESISTIBLE SUMMER COCKTAIL
The name Jiga-Vôo (pronounced as djeega voo) stands for big flight; a rhythmical, passionate and adventurous musical flight that defies labelling. At the heart of the band are Roël Calister, Magda Mendes and Praful, 3 long-term musical friends. After several previous collaborations such as in Atawo, they now re-emerge as Jiga-Vôo with their brand new music and show.
Roël Calister is the talented percussionist and composer, known for his elegant mixing of different styles like pop, jazz, traditional Caribbean and Latin. He has earned his stripes as a sideman for Izaline Calister, Orange Grove, Sara Tavares, Alain Clark and Wicked Jazz Sounds bands hes been touring with for many years.
Magda Mendes has been conquering hearts with her stunning voice on both the national and international scene. Her career started at an early age in her hometown Lisbon, Portugal, but she was soon drawn into the wide world and has since shared the stage with many top musicians all over the world. In The Netherlands she became known through her performances with Luz Azul and other artists and groups.
Praful is the gifted multi-instrumentalist and eclectic producer who has pioneered and mastered the art of tastefully blending different styles and cultures. His 5 solo-albums sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide and included a 1-US Jazz-radio hit. He toured all over the world performing all kinds of music- from Jazz to Dance, Indian Raga to Brazilian beats, his mesmerizing performance takes you from deep mystical experiences to ecstatic sound explosions. Booty-shaking rhythms & uplifting melodies.

Jiga-Vôos first CD Instinto has been released late 2009. The album brings 13 original compositions a contemporary, sensual and powerful fusion of Afro-beat with Caribbean and South American rhythms & drums. Experience uplifting Brazilian-Portuguese vocals, warm acoustic guitars and bass, soulful sax and flute solos, a dash of Dance and even Indian flavours. The music takes you back to enchanting summer nights and leaves a smile on your face.
