Lyrics

carolina

Written By: jill knight

we'd leave early in the morning 'round 5am
drive and watch the sun come up
old men selling peaches watermelons boiled peanuts
from the back of pick up trucks
on our way now

I watched the world go by from the back window
of a green ford country squire
with lovely wood paneling my dad at the wheel
mama would say the air smells better
as we crossed that line

Carolina Carolina so far away now

I never got a winks sleep at my grandmother's house
she had 200 clocks and they would chime
just one second later than the one before
and it sounded like church bells
ringing out in the night

Carolina Carolina so far away now

lightning bugs little stars
catch and put'em in mason jars
turn out the lights and watch them glow
open the lid and let them go

so I carry the memories of low country highways
that lead to rolling hills of red clay
kudzu and muscodine cover the fields
and line the roads that show me the way to
Carolina Carolina

Don't make me cry

Written By: Jill Knight

WHO MADE THE RULES
WHO'LL PAY THE PRICE
THE COMPROMISE THE SACRIFICE
THOSE LITTLE VOICES OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR
MAKE YOU FEEL SCARED AND SO UNSURE

WHO'LL GO THE DISTANCE WHO'LL TAKE THE BLAME
THE INCONSISTENT LIVE WITH THE SHAME
WHO'LL POINT THE FINGER WHO'LL SLAP YOUR HAND
WHO'LL TURN AWAY WHO'LL UNDERSTAND
BY A COMMON MAN THE LAWS WERE MADE
FOR CENTURIES OUR MINDS ENSLAVED
TO THE MISCONCEPTION THE NARROW THOUGHT
THE IGNORANCE THAT WE'VE BEEN TAUGHT

DON'T MAKE ME CRY

AND HEARTS OF JUDGMENT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE
I'D BE A LIAR TO SAY I DIDN'T CARE
I WANT TO FIGHT I WANT TO RUN
YOU WANT TO LOVE ME AND NOT HURT ANYONE
I'LL BE EVERYTHING THAT YOU'LL EVER NEED
I'LL BE YOUR HUNGER YOUR LUST YOUR GREED
I'LL BE EVERYTHING YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND
I'LL BE YOUR WOMAN I'LL BE YOUR MAN
I LIVE IN SIN I LIVE IN FEAR
I LIVE THESE MOMENTS I LIVE THEM CLEAR
THAT YOU ARE THE ONE I CAN'T DENY
DON'T BREAK MY HEART

DON'T MAKE ME CRY

WHEN YOU HEAR THOSE VOICES INSIDE YOUR HEAD
THE DEMONS DANCE AROUND YOUR BED
JUST TAKE A LISTEN TO YOUR HEART
IT'S SOCIETY TEARING US APART
YOU THINK TO BE WITH ME
YOU'LL HAVE TO LIVE A LIE
RUN AGAINST THE WIND
HAVE WINGS AND NEVER FLY
IT'S NOT YOUR DEMISE NOT YOUR FALL FROM GRACE
IT'S PURELY LOVE WRITTEN ON YOUR FACE

WHO MADE THE RULES
WHO'LL PAY THE PRICE
THE COMPRISE THE SACRIFICE
THOSE LITTLE VOICES OUTSIDE YOUR DOOR
MAKE YOU FEEL SCARED

loneliness

Written By: Jill Knight

I used to feel sorry for you but everything’s changed
All I see is pathetic and deranged

You made your bed now it’s your turn
To lie inside this mess
When darkness is where you live you learn
The only thing you earn is loneliness

What I’ve witnessed here is a crime
Guess we’ll have to wait for the telling of time
For one of these days it’s all gonna blow
And no one will be there to bear your sorrow

You made your bed now it’s your turn
To lie inside this mess
When darkness is where you live you learn
The only thing you earn is loneliness

It’s a long hard road you’ll be walking
When your words won’t hold the weight of your talking
And where will you run soldier of one

You made your bed now it’s your turn
To lie inside this mess
When darkness is where you live you learn
The only thing you earn is loneliness
