Bio

In September of 2003, Jim Cutler approached owner Mack Waldron about the possibility of a house big band anchoring Sunday nights at Tula's. That suggestion lead to the creation of the Jim Cutler Jazz Orchestra, which carries on the tradition of outstanding house big bands in the world's finest jazz clubs. Since January of 2004, the band has performed Sunday nights, focusing on original material by band members and material from the libraries of some of the great big bands - Stan Kenton, Maynard Ferguson, Buddy Rich, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and more.

Seattle is home to many great big bands, but the Jim Cutler Jazz Orchestra is unique for the area - the band performs weekly and focuses on original material, most of which is contributed by band members. The band's library consists of music written by Jim as well as Daniel Barry (trumpet) and James DeJoie (bari saxophone). Additionally, other Northwest composers are regularly featured, including David Jones and Greg Metcalf.
