Bio
Jim Gelcer - Vocals, Drums
Paul Hoffert - Piano
Justin Gray - Bass
Originally from Cape Town, Jim Gelcer studied jazz in Canada and the US, including a stint at Eastman School of Music. His work with artists as diverse as the Flying Bulgar Klezmer Band and Lee Aaron has led him around the globe - from Europe to South America. Jim is also an accomplished composer, with numerous credits in television and film. His voice has been described as sounding "like Chet Baker with edge".
Paul Hoffert, an established jazz recording artist, tv performer, and film composer by age twenty-six, went on to form the orchestral rock band Lighthouse, sell millions of records, tour the world, and was inducted into the Canadian Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1995. In 2005, Paul received the Order of Canada, Canada's highest honour.
Justin Gray is an up and coming bass player, composer and band leader on the international music scene. His main influences include jazz, North Indian classical, funk/ R&B, contemporary, and world music. He has played and worked with Dave Liebman, Kurt Elling, Mike Stern, Curtis Fuller, Ingrid Jensen, Rudresh Mahanthappa, and many others.
"Jim's voice is velvety smooth and leaves lots of room to be swept into the underlying waters of the bass and piano. He sounds like a cross between Chet Baker and Mark Murphy."
