Bio

Jimi Beavis is all class. The gentleman giant of the Brisbane Blues scene. Standing at 6'2" he towers over the members of his band, but still stands in the shadows of the blues giants from whom he draws his inspiration.
2011 has been a successful one for the charismatic gent - his EP “No Need to Deny It” (with song “Ain’t Afraid Of Crying” voted #21 in the 2011 Hot 100 song poll for Brisbane’s 4ZzZ FM radio station) was released to a waiting audience, charting in top 5 blues/roots songs on community radio across Australia and triumphant gigs at Blues on Broadbeach and the Queensland Festival of Blues. 2012 will see Jimi writing and recording a full-length album.
Jimi’s original songs draw upon the old school rhythms that gave the blues their good time dancibility. After all the blues is the roots. And yet the songs remain relevant, contemporary and irresistible to live audiences when Jimi delivers them in his inimitable charismatic way.
“Jimi Beavis delivers a raw, sweaty set that some find sexy, some find magnetic, and which no-one forgets in a hurry” - blues promoter, Paul Robinson, Queensland Festival of Blues.
Previously the front man of good-time blues act, Jimi Beavis and the 385s, 2010 was a year of rebirth for Jimi. His release Throwing It All Away was all about discarding the old and carving a new niche for himself in his vocal and harmonica sound. For the new project, Jimi is working with a core band of trained jazz musicians, consisting of guitar prodigy Dave McGuire, Costas Costatinuou on double bass (Blind Dog Donnie, Fat Picnic) and Joachim Alfheim on drums. Dave McGuire has played with numerous local bands (such as The Switch), as has Joachim Alfheim (Mardi Lumsden and the Rising Seas and others).

“This is the best Blues album by a local artist that I have heard in 10 Years” - Matt Muckleviwcz, 4ZzZ
Jimi won the BASEQ Performer of the Year in 2009, which took him to the Australian Festival of Blues in 2010. Jimi played the Sunshine Coast Blues Festival in 2008 and 2009, Woodford Folk Festival in 2009/2010 and the Brisbane Blues Festival in 2010.
