Jimmie Lunsford

 San Diego, California, USA
SoloFolkSinger/Songwriter

I write songs that are founded in, speak to and celebrate love and peace, open arms and open minds, using intricate picking patterns as well as simple strums on acoustic guitar.

Biography

I developed my finger-picking style of playing in college via many hours of practice when I should have been studying. Turns out, I was studying. I just didn't know it. Influences include Dan Fogelberg, John Denver, James Taylor, Jim Croce and more. In 2007 I met Jim Soldi, former lead guitarist for Johnny Cash, whose phenomenal skills as a musician and a producer would help my songs realize their potential. My first album, "Jimmie", was released in October, 2009, and my second album, "Be Love", was released in July, 2012, and we're currently working on my third project. The albums each contain a baker's dozen original tracks and are supported by some of Southern California's finest musicians and vocalists.

Mama's Dreams

Written By: Jimmie Lunsford

Mama’s dreams were ordinary
She didn’t write ‘em in a diary
She didn’t wear ‘em on her sleeve for the world to see
She didn’t think they’re extraordinary
Only what came naturally
Mama’s dreams were of her and me

She didn’t come from means or plenty
Slept in a bed that was a hand-me-down
But never felt big city fear in her small town
She never felt her heart empty
She always seemed to know the truth
Mama dreamed of us in her youth

Mama’s dreams were rooted in
Something beyond fantasy
Mama’s dreams are what made me me
And if I’ve ever done one thing right
I didn’t do it by luck or might
Mama’s dreams made a man out of me

Mama never would take for granted
What so many other mamas do
A moment with her boy is her dream come true
And every dream that I have planted
Is rooted in the heart of one
Mama, I’m proud to be your son

Mama’s dreams were rooted in
Something beyond fantasy
Mama’s dreams are what made me me
And if I’ve ever done one thing right
I didn’t do it by luck or might
Mama’s dreams made a man out of me

Mama’s dreams were rooted in
Something beyond fantasy
Mama’s dreams are what made me me
And if I’ve ever done one thing right
I didn’t do it by luck or might
Mama’s dreams made a man out of me
Mama’s dreams made a man out of me

The Lead

Written By: Jimmie Lunsford

I woke up with a heavy heart today
The kind of pain that just won’t go away
The good news is I’m better off
The bad news is I’m double crossed
I can feel the pain eroding into hate

It must have been the look that’s in my eye
That put your arm around me as you sighed
Sometimes, my friend, to see the light
The winner chooses not to fight
Forgiveness heals more than an eye for an eye

Somebody said that later on
If you leave the lead in the chamber long
Enough the dead will be long gone

Somebody said that later on
If you leave the lead in the chamber long
Enough the dead will be long gone

Pain like this can mess with your mind
Bitterness can sneak up from behind
And eat you from the inside out
Cut you down and clean you out
And leave you hanging by the neck in twine

I woke up with a heavy heart today
About the same as it was yesterday
Except that I did not expect
To feel like I had no regrets
Forgiveness is kinda funny that way

Somebody said that later on
If you leave the lead in the chamber long
Enough the dead will be long gone

Somebody said that later on
If you leave the lead in the chamber long
Enough the dead will be long gone

I woke up with a heavy heart today
The kind of pain that just won’t go away
