"Don't miss this detour off the main road."

5 STAR RATING: Jimmy Baldwin has a certain degree of notoriety in the field of visual media. With the release of his first CD, it's a safe bet that he will make his mark in the audio field as well. Somebody's Nobody is a wonderful collection of twelve unique and diverse songs that straddle the Americana genre in much the same way that his native El Paso straddles two cultures. “Asterisk Smile” would be Buddy Holly in this century, “Cinderella” is vintage Jackson Browne, and “I Can't Wait Another Day” is a tip of the sombrero to the mariachi influences from the other side of the line. “Ride On” has you up there in the saddle with Marty Robbins in the desert, and, wonder of wonders, “I Know You” brings a reggae beat to the timeless theme of love in vain. The closing cut is a brilliant seven and a half minute long version of Dwight Yoakam's “Guitars and Cadillacs” set again to a reggae beat, with an embellishing mariachi trumpet line; great stuff. This one is a detour off of the main road of alternate country that shouldn't be missed. -Don Grant - Bill Frater's (KRCB) frieghttrainboogie.com

"He puts the "art" in artist"

"I congratulate Mr. Baldwin on a job well done for he definitely has
put the "art" in artist and captured my imagination as Bob Dylan's "Time Out
Of Mind". For the diversified music fan, I say buy it, buy it, buy it." - Daniel J. Hinnebusch

"One of the best Americana relaeses"

I am really enjoying your latest CD and have been giving it lots of airtime on my radio show in New London CT. The mix of musical styles and vocals make it one of the best Americana releases I have heard in a while. The mix of electric guitar, rock, hint of tex-mex and just plain great roots music is great. The stories portrayed in the songs make for a great listen. - Brian Bourgoin/WCNI, 90.9FM

"A pleasure to play"

You have a great CD and lots of good cuts on it. A pleasure to play it! I just love opening a set and hearing your lush guitar tones on the opening of Walking Across New Mexico with headphones still on! - Burr Beard/WXLV 90.3FM

"A rare talent for writing songs"

So good music. This CD is a real pleasure both vocally and
instrumentally. You have a rare talent for writing songs, for catching
melodies and I noticed the very good sound and the excellent vocals
You can be proud of this very well done CD.
Really perfect for the Frenchie! - Mike Penard/ISARadio France

"Reminds me of the Bobs"

“His music inhabits a space
between Bob Wills, Bob Dylan and Bob Marley.” - Jack Kinslow, KYOTE FM.

"Not Everyday Americana"

"Jimmy approaches his brand of Americana music with a bucket full of paintbrushes and an extra-wide palette."

"stunning...intriguing...well-crafted...authentic..."

Mario Tarradell - The Dalas Morning News

"Paints Musical Images with Words"

"Looking like a Lower Greenville (Dallas)
hipster, Baldwin came to the covered stage
and played a folk-y brand of Americana.
His voice was expressive and his guitar
strumming was traditional folk.

Baldwin’s excellent acoustic set was
upbeat and warm and a fine introduction to
Faulkner’s bluesy music. Baldwin’s sense
of melody and his ability to paint musical
images with words and tones was most impressive." - Richard Carter/TimesMirrorNews

""Jimmy's a gem.""

Bio

Do you love life? Do you grab life by the horns? Well then, you’re what Jimmy calls a “vivador.” Vivador, the latest
CD from “the Cactus-Headed Troubadour,” truly captures
Baldwin’s uniquely expressive voice and what the
Dallas Morning news calls his “bucket full of paintbrushes
and an extra-wide palette” of Americana music.

Recorded at the historic The Double J Hacienda & Art Ranch, the new CD was co-produced with Clay Pendergrass and
features some of Dallas’ best-known musicians. The album was recorded by Jimi Bowman and mixed by Danny Kadar, known for his work with My Morning Jacket and The Avett Brothers. Grammy® winner Gavin Lurssen (of “O Brother, Where Art Thou?” and Robert Plant and Alison Krauss’s “Raising Sand”) mastered the record. The Jimmy sound is rooted in the Texas singer-songwriter tradition. Born in Western Kentucky and raised in El Paso, Texas, his music is a “Jimmy’d” up brew of the sounds he grew up on – classic country, rock, reggae, and the freestyle sounds of the mariachi street musicians of Juarez. Jimmy’s strong visual writing and storytelling on these eleven brand-new original songs captures the heart. This music can turn anyone into a “vivador.”
