Biography

Jimmy Balfour is a B.C. based musician who is equally passionate about recording and live performance. This passion permeates his latest recording project as well as the captivating moments that comprise his live shows. A genuine delight in musical depth characterizes his compositions and is evident in his singing and guitar playing. In writing, recording, and performing Jimmy is motivated by exploring new ideas, creating atmospheres, and connecting with an audience. Whether it's in the electric energy of a full band, or in the intimacy of a solo performance, his love for music is always plain to see.

Jimmy is often joined on stage by artist [and wife] Nikki Balfour, who's approach to painting brings a new level of energy to a live performance.

Together, Nikki and Jimmy make a unique team. Their shared life allows them to grow artistically as individuals while also enabling them to explore the possibilities of new artistic horizons together. Specifically, a live performance provides an ideal dynamic between musician, painter, and audience. In this setting, painting and music together inspire moments of energetic creativity that would otherwise remain undiscovered. The fusion of visual art and music as a live performance is a unique experience for the artist, the musician and the audience from one event to the next. Nikki and Jimmy maintain that flexibility is fundamental to the success of their artistic synthesis. Accordingly, they enjoy performing for diverse audiences and are comfortable in venues of all sizes. Their hope is to continue to share their individual passions for art and music while engaging artists and inspiring audiences both locally and internationally.

Lyrics

New Religion

Written By: Jimmy Balfour

You have my heart, you have my soul
Now what do I do and where do I go

See the lights in beautiful motion
The radiant way, a king's parade
The radiant way, a king's parade

I'm in the market for a new religion
Where I know the time of year by the feel of the air
What if I'm meant to stare into the fire
I've always dreamed of reading the stars

Oh Oh

The things I have I hardly know
I've been a flame burning bright in an empty hole
The lawman comes, the spirit goes
And in your soul he takes control
In your soul he takes control

I'm in the market for a new religion
Where I don't have to try as hard
What if I'm meant to stare into the fire
I've always dreamed of reading the stars

I'm in the market for a new religion
Where I know the time of year by the feel of the air
What if I'm meant to stare into the fire
I've always dreamed of reading the stars

I'm lying awake, with moonlight through my window
I'm lying awake now, and I hear myself say

Give me one good king and I will follow
Give me one good king and I will follow

Moonshine On My Mind

Written By: Jimmy Balfour

Never known the answers
But I can fake it with the best
You're the coming and going, the beginning and the end
What makes you any different from the rest
Can you hear that voice on the wind
Can you hear that cry rise from end to end

It's the labour pains of a new beginning
It's the sound of something worth our memory
We're moving, we're moving around it
Some try to step inside it
Some just pass by, thinking to enjoy their time
I'm all for joy, but what of suffering
I'm all for a good time, but time's never been a trusted friend

I look for you in the winter sky
In the pale orange glow
I've got moonshine on my mind
I've walked all this time away
I know all these streets in the middle of the night
But they don't know me, no, they don't know my name
But I take comfort in that
I take comfort in the moonlit rain

Oh Oh

The Free And Clear

Written By: Jimmy Balfour

Oh, I'm in the free and clear
Oh, the wide open spaces

Oh, there'll always be a way through
But I still need your help now

Oh Oh

Oh, the world doesn't owe me
No, I owe the world to you

Oh Oh

I'll finish my life work in my last breath
Think up a career on my death bed
I'll finish my life work in my last breath
I'll think up a career on my death bed

I've got a long shot of a fall back plan
I've got a long shot of a fall back plan to fall onto
With you

Oh, a nod to the past
Oh, step into a new day

Leaf

Written By: Jimmy Balfour

The leaf turns gold
I hear stories told
The leaf turns gold
I see you go

Oh Oh

The sea turns gold
I hear stories told
The sea turns gold
Oh let me go

Oh Oh

Come on the broken hearted
Come on the worn traveler
Come on the departed
Come on the lost poets
Come on the jailbird prophets
Come on the melody makers

Do What You Need To Do

Written By: Jimmy Balfour

Do what you need to do so the rest does not waste away slowly
Do what you need to do so the rest does not waste away slowly
Who am I talking to
Don't know if I like being told what to do
But I like being told I can follow you
Into the end

I try to sell my soul
Say it's all to be sold, all to be sold
I wanna find love, and learn how to live
You wanna buy my heart, you'll give everything,
You'll fill it with love
Still I can't let it go, I can't let it go, I can't let it go

Oh Oh Oh Oh

Do what you need to do so the rest does not waste away slowly

I try to sell my soul
Say it's all to be sold, all to be sold
I wanna find love, and learn how to live
You wanna buy my heart, you'll give everything,
you'll fill it with love
Still I can't let it go, I can't let it go, I can't let it go

Oh Oh Oh Oh

Oh Oh

Do what you need to do so the rest does not waste away slowly
Do what you need to do so the rest does not waste away slowly
Who am I talking to
Don't know if I like being told what to do
But I like being told I can follow you
Into the end
