Jimmy Carpenter

BandR&BFunk

Saxophone-heavy funky jazzy New Orleans flavored rhythm & blues, played by the Crescent City's finest, with soul and energy that comes with years of experience. Emphasis on grooves and melody, well-written songs with mature and topical lyrical content.

Biography

I've been playing professionally for nearly 30 years, mostly as a sideman until the release of my debut solo cd, Toiling In Obscurity. I spent years on the road with various recording artists, including Tinsley Ellis and Jimmy Thackery, and moved to New Orleans in early 2004 to raise the bar and expand my musical horizons. Since then I have immersed myself in the city and the music, and have been very successful, playing in some of the city's best bands, including Eric Lindell, Walter Wolfman Washington, Honey Island Swamp Band, and more. The material on my CD is a reflection of my long career, with songs from as far back as 1987 to just last year. The disc and the live band features some of New Orleans finest musicans, all stars in their own right. There is great chemistry between us, and it shines through onstage and on the CD.
