Jimmy Hooligan

Omaha rapper Jimmy Hooligan is co-hosting an unofficial SXSW party full of Midwest rappers (including Omahans Pflames and Holla Cron & Sara C, and Lincolnites Toppas Wit Choppas) as well as rap battles, giveaways and an open mic. The party will be full of people hoping to catch some non-mainstream hip-hop. The party, at a hip-hop and dance club called the Eastern, isn't an official SXSW event, but unofficial showcases are often popular and make for some of the best festival moments. - Omaha World Hearald

Bio

When you think Nebraska. Surely you don't think Hip-Hop. You may be one of those that thinks: farms, cows, pigs, chickens, corn, good ol' boys.

Well, Jimmy Hooligan is going to change your stereo-types. It is true, all of those things and more exist in the "Good Life" state. Take a trip down the 1-80 pipeline east and you will run smack into Omaha. A town named after the Native American Tribe with the same name. Be sure to make the trip safely as 1-80 runs directly through the center of the United States from Coast to Coast. Don't blink too fast, you might miss the 75 North Kennedy Freeway. Be sure to ask for directions before you get off on Lake St. or Hamilton. Travel a little further to a street called Pinkney. That's where you will find the street Jimmy grew up on. Also the same street Malcom X was born. Don't expect to find the house, only a small memorial remains. Don't be bothered by the odd looks. Most the people of Omaha are kind hearted. Be weary of the guy that needs just a little gas money, or some change to get diapers. Don't worry bout that dude asking for help to get his HIV meds. After-all it's only Nebraska... What's the worst that could happen?

That's where Jimmy Hooligan aka DAWB comes in. Raised in North Omaha, shot through the judicial system and a ward of the State since his early teens, Jimmy found what he was looking for in Hip-Hop. Although Hooligan came from a loving family, as a youth there was more than trouble to say the least. Growing up in the racially mixed neighborhood of Benson, Jimmy was constantly referred to as "White Boy". Since he loved hip-hop he was a "whigger", and definitely thought he was Vanilla-Ice. His hair in the 6th grade will prove that. Spending most if not all of his teen-age years in group homes, foster care, juvenile detention, and as an adult prison, Jimmy earned the name "Hooligan" by default.

Fast forward 20 years... Despite naysayers, no budget, and the fact he was from Nebraska. Jimmy did what people said he could not do... Be a rapper.

Jimmy picked up the drum machines and began to not only produce, record, and promote his own music. He became good at it too. Hooligan made a name for himself promoting his own shows, bringing in acts, and over the years earned the respect of his peers and fans. Very few can say they have done what he has done. Doing only what others wished they could. This may sound cockey, but it's true.

Over the years, Jimmy has been honored to work  and record with legends and those in the game making moves. He recently inked a deal with Big Mike (Geto Boys) to be a part of Mike's Label Fast Boy Music. Jimmy has toured with Murphy Lee (St. Lunitics), Ruka Puff, Big Mike, and more. Sharing stages, and recording with such artists as Yelawolf, Rittz, Tech N9ne, Young Bleed, Hopsin, D12, Young Buck, Slaine, Snoop Dogg and so much more. Jimmy doesn't take "NO" for an answer. He will book his own tours, throw his own shows, and although he is invited to perform on stages during SXSW he throws his own independent Hip-Hop Showcase in Austin that is capable of competing with the best.

Jimmy has taken home Regional Male Artist of the Year in Chicago at "Midwest Urban Music Awards", Holds the Album of the Year plaque from "Omaha Hip-Hop Awards" and is regularly nominated and covered by multiple media outlets. Jimmy hosts and sits on panels at independent hip-hop music conferences to help others reach their goals.

Hooligan has released over 10 projects which can easily be found with a quick Google of "Jimmy Hooligan". Check out some of his earlier videos. Download some freebees on Datpiff, or just holler at him in person. He will get you some Hooligan Hip-Hop.
