"To Whom It May Concern"

I wish I had Jimmy Landry's voice. I wish I wrote Jimmy Landry's song "My Sister Says." I wish I had Jimmy Landry's outlook. I'm glad I don't have Jimmy Landry's hairline.

Anyway, Jimmy is not only one of the Bluebird's favorite writers, he's also a good friend of mine. He has an energy on and off the stage that is infectious. Supposedly, he makes some mean pasta dishes , too, but I can't confirm that.

All you really need to know is that Jimmy can do what few performers can; walk on stage with just a guitar and his voice and blow you away.

Good stuff. Highly recommended. Enough said.

Peace.

"Bele Chere preview"

Bottle up the enthusiasm that Jimmy Landry brings to a performance, and you could sell it to losing armies and change the outcome of battles. Extreme praise? Go see him before you say that.

Landry pours more emotion into one song than many performers fit into a whole night- whether it be the intensely confessional "From Where You Come"; the beautiful, hopeful look at new love, "if Angels Keep a Watchful Eye"; the rousing foot-stomper "I;m Drivin'"; or the infectious pop of "Stop Draggin' Those Thoughts Around." And he's a born storyteller-- hearing what inspired his songs sometimes rivals their performances.

A warm, comfortable voice; poignant, emotionally rich songs; and a great stage presence. Need your heart recharged? Landry's your man. - The Mountain Xpress

"The Other Emerging Songwriter"

In the face of Jimmy Landry's commitment to bringing exceptional outside talent to this region as a part of his Emerging Songwriter Series, it's sometimes easy to overlook Landry's own considerable talent.

Pick up a copy of this year's (1995) "Let Go", and encounter a songsmith with a gift for melody and a willingness to dig past the obvious, and an engaging vocal warmth (that sometimes recalls James Taylor). You'll find, too, some amazing stylistic variation, and, a continuity of effort- traits that rarely surface together.

And, as with Willy Porter- this month's Emerging Songwriter headliner- you'll have trouble NOT singing Landry's songs in the shower (is there a truer litmus test for great songwriting?) "Stop Draggin' Those Thoughts Around," for instance, is simply infectious.

Though Landry frequently headlines both the Grey Eagle and the Town Pump, on Emerging Songwriter nights at the Grey Eagle, you have the added bonus of catching him as the featured performers opening act. So do yourself a real big favor; Get infected. - The Mountain Xpress
