"Englewood as art immortalized by local singer"

Margarittaville has Jimmy Buffet, and Lake Woebegone has Garrison Keillor. Now a real-life land of pleasant living, Englewood, also has its bard.
Comes Jimmy McCarthy, a lover of surf, sand, and all things that make life more then bearable in Englewood, with a CD which celebrates the fine living and finer people of the peninsula on Lemon Bay.
Bob Seger lent lyric beauty to the gritty vistas of Detroit. Tony Bennett immortalized San Francisco. In both instances, those artists found ways to glorify images and people many take for granted. In a similar manner, McCarthy has found a way to enlarge and define the things and people that make Englewood such a singular place. - Sun Herald

"Spend an Evening or an Hour"

Last Night I heard McCarthy / Buescher. I was expecting to hear some good Irish music and then start falling asleep to the same old jig over and over. I know a true Irishman can tell one reel from another but not this Jewish girl from New Jersey! Since they never use any programmed back up music or drum machines, I was looking forward to a nice " folky" night.
The first song was , Guess what, a Jig! As I was looking for reading material, I heard the beginning of what I thought was Buffalo Springfield's " For What It's Worth"! They blew me away with a great version of that classic! Next came "Charlie and the MTA". After two songs, the folks were clapping to the beat and singing along. David Buescher all but set his fiddle on fire during the solo! THIS IS NOT A FOLK DUO!
They put together short set of songs Jimmy has written over the years here in town. Most folks knew the words and dictated the set with requests. We all sang " It don't get any better then this, we'll go drinkin all night then go fish". We all laughed at ourselves during "The Roundabout".They went into a rowdy version of ' The Star of the County Down". I knew that one! and by the time we left, I had had my fill of some great classic tunes along with having a new appreciation for the Celtic side of music. McCarthy's songs about Englewood and his stories make for a great evening of entertainment. Even if you only have an hour to spend, you will still get quite a plateful of music from McCarthy / Buescher. You can catch them at Farlow's, Carney's and Papa Don's.They will be on the Jimmy Jay Show on WENG this Saturday at 9:00 AM - Herald Tribune

Bio

A strong influence of John Prine and Van Morrison can be heard in the songs we play. Our original songs are quick to the point so people tend to enjoy them more then long "deep" tunes.
Stories and banter make up a good part of the entertainment. We tend to play long sets, so let us know if you want shorter sets. McCarthy and Buescher have been together ever since they met in a recording session three years ago. We have played in Super Markets and Stadiums, and we have fun where ever we play!
