Jimmy Russell & BOC

The ministry of Jimmy Russell and Because of Christ formed in February 1995. It was then, when the Lord gave Jimmy a vision and a word to gather a group of people that didn’t mind praising, worshipping and spreading the Gospel of Jesus Christ through song. This group would also do different things than other groups. Jimmy was already busy doing the work of the Lord and being about his Father’s business. While playing the drums both locally and nationally for various artists, he was also teaching music. As a role model, mentor and instructor to aspiring drummers, he helped many to understand their role in the Gospel Music Ministry and Industry.

Whether serving in a performer, clinician or instructor capacity; Jimmy’s participation in the industry’s workshops and seminars throughout the country has been endless. This would also include The Gospel Music Workshop of America, as well as his home base DC Chapter.

Jimmy’s talents have afforded him the opportunity to minister over the years with contemporaries Kurt Carr & The Kurt Carr Singers, Kirk Franklin, Pastor Calvin Rhone, Albertina Walker (The Queen of Gospel) and the late Rev. James Cleveland and Rev. Donald Vails. His experiences have also included recording with some of the above, as well. Jimmy Russell and BOC have performed at many events to include Union Temple’s Annual Unifest, The National Council of Negro Women, Inc., Black Family Reunion (NBC4 Stage), The Power of One Community Festival (sponsored by 1340 WYCB and Radio One), The National Convention of Gospel Singers & Chorus and The Thomas Dorsey Convention. They’ve been blessed to share the stage with Gospel Artists such as Richard Smallwood, Vanessa Williams, Daryl Coley, John P. Kee, Vicky Winans, DC Chapter of GMWA, Angela Spivey, Steven Hurd, Lisa McClendon, Izzy, John Tillery & Living Sacrifice and many others.

All of these experiences are evident in the group, Jimmy Russell and Because of Christ; which consists of singers and musicians from various churches and denominations; all believing that Jesus is Lord. With emphasis on vision and purpose, the group has had the opportunity to minister at various churches and venues throughout Washington-Maryland Metropolitan Area and beyond. Their style and versatility has afforded them the ability to minister at a potpourri of events, ranging from church banquets & services to outdoor festivals, community fundraisers, conventions and more.
