Comforting Words

COMFORTING WORDS
by Jimmy Stiles
When I was a boy once I went to see
A hometown parade - just my Dad and me
But I slipped away as it started to rain
With tears on my cheeks I was calling his name.

And through all of the crowd and all of the noise
I couldn’t see his face but I remember his voice
“Son hold what you got, stay right where you are,
You’ll be ok, hey I’m not very far.”

And those comforting words I’ve heard down through the years
Through grade school and high school and my college career
Through good times and bad
If I cried or rejoiced
Like a clear mountain stream
Was my father’s voice.

When I’d gotten older I remember one time
My car had broke down
All I had was one thin dime
Stepped into a phone booth as it started to rain
A little shook up as I called out his name.

With a lump in my throat and my hands a bit moist
I couldn’t see his face but I remember that voice
“Son hold what you got, stay right where you are
You’ll be ok, hey I’m not very far.”

And those comforting words I’ve heard down through the years
Through baseball and football when I learned to shift gears
Through marriage and that first job
When I made a hard choice
Like the tide never ending
Was my father’s voice.

My Dad was a preacher who could sing a sweet song
He was a teacher who taught right from wrong
He loved the people and they loved him too
I know his motto must have been the Golden Rule.

Now that battle he fought that brought us all tears
Took away his voice but not the echo I hear
So when I am burdened or have a bad day
Dad I want you to know I can still hear you say...

Those comforting words I’ve heard down through the years
That lifted me up and calmed all my fears
And no matter what comes as life takes its course
Like the sun and the moon will be my father’s voice
Like the sun and the moon will be my father’s voice
Like the sun and the moon will be my father’s voice.

by Jim Stiles

Hey Daddy why ya looking sad
Did I do something bad
Are you gonna push me down
Ok I want make a sound
Daddy now where’d you go
It’s a little bit cold
Today.

Chorus
There’s gonna be hell to pay
One day
There’s gonna be a reckoning
Some way
Gonna be a judgement call
That’s made
Gonna be hell to pay
One day.

Hey please Mr. Boss of me
I really need to take some leave
Little trouble with the family
I’ll work extra see
Say your gonna have to let me go
It’s a little bit cold
Today.

Repeat Chorus

I’m feeling
No healing
But who can see the wind
Before it starts to spin.

I’m willing
But it’s killing me
To keep it in
It’s happening again.
