The individual members of the Jim Offerman Band have their musical experience on clear display with this EP. Even though the group was formed little over a year a go, the sound is tight and the arrangements are all well made. Frontman Jim Offerman knows how to write a good song, with all four tracks on this EP evidence of his considerable craftsmanship as a composer. Topping that, he also has a nice and warm sounding voice, which he uses to give varied colors to each of the songs.
Speaking of colors, the quartet manages to give each and every song a distinct tint and thereby prevents everything from sounding the same. This variation makes it hard to compare the group to other bands. At times, they sound a bit like Racoon, but there is also some parallels to a balladeer. Jim Offerman Band doesn't shy away from more rocky sounds either, making this reviewer think of bands like Zober or the U2 from the mid eighties. There is also a clear presence of singer/songwriter influences. The big prize on the album is 'Like Superman' with a wonderful refrain and a sunny atmosphere, for which the piano sound is key. The other three songs also score well above average.

Listening to the selection of songs they have on their website, you will quickly hear a rush of energy & passion pouring from each song. Boasting their biggest hit "Like Superman", it definitely showcases their efforts. Now on a personal note, I found the most ear pleasing listen, and my favorite song showcased to be, "The Abyss". The lead has a unique sound, and Jim Offerman's voice is enough to make any girl swoon.
Overall, not having any previous writing experience and/or expert musical insight, other than absolutely loving to find new and exciting bands to listen to, I am definitely going to keep my eye out for this band. I will brag when they become the huge success i can tell they are leading up to. Great Music Boys! Keep it up! To the rest of you, you should definitely check them out, you will not be disappointed!

Bio
I am Jim Offerman, a singer-songwriter from Utrecht, The Netherlands. I make indie pop music that moves you from darkness into light. When you fall down, I pick you up and tell you to hold on. Well, not literally, of course (one would be awfully busy picking everybody up and telling them to hold on), but I do hope my music has that effect on you! It is why I make the stuff.
Actually, I am not just making music for you. It's also for me! Many of my songs started out with the things that I needed to hear. "Speak Up" helped me to understand that people won't know what's going on with me if I don't tell them; "This Is Me" made me work to overcome my self-esteem issues and "Hold On To Your Dreams" taught me to do just that. Of course, not every song I write has to contain a lesson of sorts - sometimes I am just plain silly, such as when I wrote "Cream." My music is dead serious, but also fun.
My current project is a song-a-month recording marathon that will culminate in the release of my new album "Start Here" in June of 2009.
