C F C
When I was a boy in America
C F G
We still said our prayers in public school
C F C/Am
We recited the pledge to old Glory
F G C
And my Mom and Dad taught me the golden rule

C F C
Now I look around at my America
C F G
It sure don’t look the same, anymore
C F C/Am
I sure do miss my America
F G C
I want my America back, like before

Chorus
F G C
Where oh where is my America
F G C
Did she go away to stay
F G C Am
Will she rise again, or just fade away and then
F G C
Disappear to be dust in the wind

C F C
Now I’m Old and living in America
C F G
Things are still the same as before
C F C/Am
Old folks don’t mean much in America

F G C
But neither does the Bible or the Lord

C F C
But there is one thing about America
C F G
That they can’t put aside or take away,
C F C Am
America’s in our heart, and has been from the start
F G C
And America is still in my heart today

Chorus 2X and last line 3X on last chorus and out

Back in Oklahoma…where I was born and raised,

There was family…and lots of friends that hung around,
C G C
It’s nothing like that here…here in this cold, cold town

C F C
I came here to be a star…to have my name in lights,
C G
But smoky old bars are all I’ve seen…playin’ most every night
C F C
I miss the blue skies of Tulsa…the smell of the honeysuckle vine,
C G C
The sound of oil rigs pumpin’… The taste of Arkansas wine

CHORUS

F C
Don’t you know that I miss you
G Am F C
Don’t you know, that I’d give my heart and soul…to be with you
F G Am F
And I know if I could…I’d come home to you and then
C G C
Back in Oklahoma…will I ever see home again

C F C
People uses to tell me…you can’t go home again,
C G
But something down in my soul…cries for my old friend,
