"Jim Seem & Melissa Hyman"

“Jim Seem and Melissa Hyman play acoustic bedroom-pop flavored with dashes of hip-hop, motown and folk. You may be surprised at the lush harmonies and tremendous energy of this newly formed duo. Mixing it up is what these two seem to do best, blending unexpected elements into an undeniably appealing sound.” - The Mountain Express (Asheville, NC)

"Melissa Hyman and Jim Seem to Perform at Vintage Port Wine Bar"

"Often compared to that of Ray Lamontagne or Damien Rice, Jim Seem's ragged-edged voice and mesmerizing stage presence mark him as an original new artist to watch." - Port Washington Life (Port Washington, NY)

"Jim Seem and Melissa Hyman"

"This duo proves their proclivity for beautifully unconventional, fearless songwriting. Jim & Melissa's signature style layers amazing vocal prowess over "a unique blend of hip-hop-influenced, cello-spiked acoustic R&B". - theskinnypancake.com

Bio

Jim Seem's live shows vibrate with fierce energy and intense stage presence. It's almost hard to believe there are only two people up there making all this sound: a kind of convergence of the lyrical craft of David Gray, the soulful sensibility of Ray Lamontagne and the sex appeal of D'Angelo. Seem's songwriting is emotionally deft, and his catalog ranges widely. Some songs are at once sensual and sorrowful, evocative and provocative. Some are straightforward celebrations of life. Seem is currently touring with cellist/vocalist Melissa Hyman, whose cello and vocal harmonies are an unexpectedly perfect compliment to Seem's ragged-edged voice. The result is an unforgettable show.

Touring full-time since April 2009, Jim has racked up a lot of first-hand experience on the road. From the beginning he has taken charge of every aspect of his career, handling his own booking and promotion. He displays an acute business sense and cool demeanor that led one critic to call him "the Jay-Z of acoustic music." The die-hard work ethic and professionalism required to make it all happen on his own have set him apart as a self-propelled and utterly focused musician, and have contributed to his rapid rise in the world of independent music. From clubs to college campuses, Seem has hand-built a devoted and passionate fan base throughout the eastern half of the United States.

Seem is currently touring in support of his most recent album, "So Much Soul: Live and on Tour," a collection of live tracks which capture the raw energy and seductiveness of his on-stage performances. He will continue touring the US until early 2011, when he will take a break to record his first full-length studio album.
