"Jim Smith Band Show in Markham"

"... the band cooks with acoustic rock jazz and world music flavours... wonderful vocals provided by markham native Steve Soman attracts the attention of everyone who hears him..."
- Julie Anne, Markham Village Voice

"JSB Wows Urban Cafe"

"... the Jim Smith Band performed an extremely successful gig at the Urban Cafe ... the band displays impeccable music ability along with fantastic charisma and a knack for playing live... The interplay between each member, the instrumental solos, and the vocals were watertight! It seems that the dynamics of an already professional sounding band are becoming increasingly evident..." - Meredith Harper, Unionville Syntax Magazine

""One More Second" CD Feedback"

"You'd never know by the exceptional musical performances, production and arrangement on this CD that the act only features members 20 years of age and younger. It's a rare gift to have a band's debut album reflect so much musical maturity. They've got a long and prosperous road ahead of them." - Jaimie Vernon, President, Bullseye Records

"JSB Comments"

Angelic vocals soaring atop a rhythmic bed of percussive precision. The Horn and Steel are excellent additions to an already great recipe. Like your favorite spices to an already mouthwatering sauce. An appetite enhancer for any starving music fan.

- RJ Hancock, President, Tangerine Records

Bio

The Jim Smith Band sound is not easy to classify. Their music is a combination of intelligent pop and acoustic rock, crossed with funk, jazz and world music elements. The multiculturalism of the members, the steel drum and tenor sax as the solo instruments, and the high energy and incredible songwriting consistently set this band apart.

In late 2004 the Jim Smith Band released their second CD, One More Second. This collection of 15 original tracks demonstrates the amazing writing, musicality and talent of the Jim Smith Band. It is a brilliant follow-up to their debut CD, Falling up the Stairs.

The Jim Smith Band was selected for a ‘York Region Celebration of the Arts award, sponsored by the York Region Newspaper Group, and competed and won John Oakley’s weekly song writing contest "Who Told You You Had Talent?" on radio CFRB 1010.

The Jim Smith Band has been featured at several Toronto clubs, including the Horseshoe Tavern, El Mocambo, Holy Joe’s and the Tranzac Club. The band has entertained at the Distillery District’s Pardi Gras festival, Markham Village Music Festival, Unionville Bandshell Concert Series, Scarborough Ribfest, and entertained students at the University of Toronto's frosh week celebrations.
