You never know what to expect from this band because Screaming Jimmy makes sure that every show is different and unique.

Biography

I have been playing all over the West Coast from Seattle to LA for several decades. I have played in almost every possible situation and this is by far the best band I have ever put together. Our harpist hails from Chicago, our Saxophonist from La, the bassist and drummer are Central Coast natives as is our guitarist. This six piece band sounds like an orchestra full of good time jump/dance blues. Very original and highly entertaining.

This time around I decided to only use people I really liked and wanted to hang out with.As a result I have a band of guys I can truly call brothers.- screamingjimmy

Smoke And Mirrors

Written By: Jim Townsend

I had a friendship that turned to dust
I couldn’t hang out with someone I could not trust
Lied to my face, he did it a lot
But I was too high to give it too much thought
We had one thing in common for too many years
A friendship held together
Smoke and mirrors

I knew a drummer, his girlfriend was great
Both wanted marriage, they could not wait
Didn’t have no money, and didn’t know why
The money they made , they spent getting high
From the distance I seen the bitter tears
A marriage blown to pieces
Smoke and mirrors

Smoke and mirrors, it’s a magic show
How much is real, you’ll never know
Smoke and mirrors, now here’s the joke
Smoke from the joint and a mirror to cut the coke

Sometimes I wonder just where are they now
Maybe pushing up daisies? Feeding some cow
I remember the faces, I remember the games
I remember the places, I just don’t remember the names
I try to put the lapses down on the passing of the years
I’ve got a memory that’s been tainted
Smoke and mirrors

Smoke and mirrors, it’s a magic show
How much is real, you’ll never know
Smoke and mirrors, now here’s the joke
Smoke form the joint and a mirror to cut the coke

Too Much Information

Written By: Jim Townsend

I got an interesting call last night, from a friend of mine
He called to complain about a problem he was having, down where the sun don’t shine
And as he proceeded to fill me in, leaving nothing to the imagination
I threw the phone out the window....
Too much information
I turned on the TV set, to see what there was to see
Sitting there talking to the talk show host was a man of ninety-three
He was some kind of freaking expert and said that lard could cure constipation
I put my shoe through the tube....
Too much information
In this information age privacy is dead
Some of the things that people say are better left unsaid
There are things that I wish I did not know
Things that I wish they’d never show
All across the nation....
Too much information
I picked up the newspaper to read about sports
There was the story of an athlete and he was suffering from anal warts
It was a comprehensive article complete with full color illustration
I flushed the paper down the can...,
Too much information
In this information age privacy is dead
Some of the things that people say are better left unsaid
There are things that I wish I did not know
Things that I wish they’d never show
All across the nation....
Too much information
So now my TV’s broken and my phone's out in the yard
My toilet’s overflowing and my refrigerator’s full of lard
And suddenly it occurs to me in the midst of this conversation
This song really kind of sucks...
Too much information
In this information age privacy is dead
Some of the things that people say are better left unsaid
There are things that I wish I did not know
Things that I wish they’d never show
All across the nation....
Too much information

Blues Without A Horn

Written By: Jim Townsend

The night he was born, now listen to me
He was crying in rhythm in a syncopated key
One day he turned five, and his mom brought home a balloon
His mouth slipped off of the nozzle and music filled the room
He was born, to blow the blues without a horn
Until he turned eleven he never said a word
He just sat and jammed to records like Coltrane and Bird
By the time he turned fifteen, that kid could play
His folks brought home a saxophone, but it just got in the way
He was born, to blow the blues without a horn
Playing high notes and low notes and all notes in between
Sharp notes and flat notes and some just a little bit green
Staccato, vibrato, legato and lotto
I’m telling you it’s insane.
It makes you kind of wonder what’s going on inside his brain
He was born, to blow the blues without a horn
You ought to catch his action, he’s been playing all over town
But if he sits in be careful
‘Cause he’ll really knock you down
He went to the local club and said “I’m gonna rock this place”
They said, “ Hey where’s you axe?”
He said, “I’m wearing it on my face!”
They rock and rolled ‘til midnight, hotter than a wet dream
He would have played til the sun came up, but the band ran out of steam
He was born, to blow the blues without a horn
Playing high notes and low notes and all notes in between
Sharp notes and flat notes and some just a little bit green
Staccato, vibrato, legato and lotto
I’m telling you it’s insane.
It makes you kind of wonder what’s going on inside his brain
He was born, to play the blues without a horn
You ought to catch his action, he’s been playing all over town
And if you do, you’ll wonder too
How the hell does he make that sound?

Watchin My Baby Sleep

Written By: Jim Townsend

I'm a fine musician, I work most every night
My lady's got a day job, she’s up by morning light
When I come in past midnight, trying not to make a peep
I often stop a moment
Just to watch my baby sleep

Oh what a lovely lady, so beautiful and fair
Looking’ just like an angel, with a halo of golden hair
Smiling at somesecret dream, in slumber-land so deep
I count my lucky stars
Just watching my baby sleep

I wake up in the morning
She kisses me on the cheek
Smiles at me so sweetly
She doesn’t need to speak

‘ Cause I know she’ll always love me, in the good times and the bad
Always been my biggest fan, protectin' every dream I’ve had
I’m lucky that she’ll have me with the hours that I keep
I know all this for certain
Watching my baby sleep

Standin here in the darkness
Quiet as I can be
I know that I’m a lucky man
As any fool could see

The longer that I linger in this silent reverie
There’s a chance she’ll start to stirring maybe pass a glance at me
I head off to shower, she goes back to counting’ sheep
But first I whisper that I love her
And say ”Babe, go back to sleep”
It ‘s these moments I'll always treasure
Just watching my baby sleep

The Hunger

Written By: Jim Townsend

They hug too often, they hug too long
They keep pretending, it can’t be wrong
To be so tempted, to feel like this
To stand so close, close enough to kiss
Drawin’ the line they remain as friends
‘Cause the hunger passes as the moment ends
They’re swapping E-mails every day
And keeping secrets, a dangerous game to play
He’s got a family,got a life
She's got a husband, he’s got a knife
Drawin’ the line they remain as friends
‘Cause the hunger passes and the moment ends
Take it from me
Don’t dance in the fire
Or you’ll burn in the heat
Drown in desire
Take it from me, don’t cross that line
'Cause if it happens, hearts will break
It won’t be pretty, make no mistake
One nights pleasure, risk it all
Who can measure just how far a soul can fall?
Drawin’ the line and remain as friends
‘Cause the hunger passes
The hunger passes
The hunger passes
But it never ends

There's A Mouse About

Written By: Jim Townsend

There’s a mouse about!
There’s a mouse about the house!
There’s a mouse about to drive me out of my mind
I hear his tiny little toenails scratchin’ late at night inside the wall
I keep finding little calling cards in the cupboard down the hall
And though so far I haven’t seen him yet, I know by God he’s near
With his long mouse tail, his dirty mouse nails and his pink little mousketeer ears
There’s a mouse about!
There’s a mouse about the house!
There’s a mouse about to drive my cat insane
Oscar keeps sniffin round the trash can, for hours expectantly
Even when the lights are off and it’s too darn dark to see
I don’t think Oscar’d eat him, but I know he’d like to try
A little mouse shake, a little mouse bake and a side of little mouse fries
There’s a mouse about!
There’s a mouse about the house!
There’s a mouse about to make me want to scream
I finally saw him in the kitchen , he scurried ‘cross my feet
It was somewhere ‘round ‘bout midnight, we were both lookin for a bite to eat
I didn’t do a darn thing , he caught me by surprise
With a little mouse eek, a little mouse squeak and a cute little mouse goodbye

So I called Humane Exterminator
In a fit of mouse hate rage
And or two hours later
That man was standing there with a cage
Inside was the author of my nightmares
Just as timid as you please
Quivering in the corner
And nibbling on some moldy cheese
There’s a mouse about!
There’s a mouse about the house!
There’s a mouse about the size of my thumb
I went down to the local pet store to buy some mouse supplies
I got a real good deal on a cage with a wheel
And some vitamins for his eyes
And now the vet says he’s a she so you see, so I’m naming her Rene’
And I’m not about to turn her out
It seems that little lady’s in a family way.

Invisible Lines

Written By: Jim Townsend

Invisible lines divide our planet
Words on paper label each land
But to the core it’s all connected
One big chunk of rock and sand
Invisible lines divide our oceans
Words on paper label each place
Water flows with constant motion
From sea to sky and down on my face
All one planet
All one sea
All one people
All one cosmic I am
I am free
Invisible lines divide our airways
Words on paper label each zone
Clouds and birds are free to wander
Safely through their heavenly home
All one planet
All one sea
All one people
All one cosmic I am
I am free
All one ocean
All one sky
All one people
All one cosmic I am, I am
All one planet
All one sea
All one people
All one cosmic I am
I am free
