Bio
Jimy Young, or JY Jelly as his friends know him, started off as a kid in Bayonne, New Jersey playing drums, keyboards and guitar with local school bands and eventually progressed to area DooWop groups.
He relocated to the West coast in the 80s, concentrating more on honing his guitar skills, and managed to hook up with members of bands such as Blondie, the Adapters, and the Jets. After sowing his oats there and venturing into studio and live performance work, he returned to the East Coast and began playing live shows at local NYC coffee houses.
JY also formed various singer/songwriter workshops; most notably at Downtime Nightclub with Melissa Cross. Never losing his love for songwriting and always the consummate groovemeister, he then put together his own band to showcase both originals and his distinctive take on classic hits.
JY has also written for independent films, background and ambient music for documentaries, as well as the theme music for a local cable game show. A potent performer and storyteller, he most recently served as the regular house band at Downtime Nightclub twice each week in NYC.
