Biography

The word JIVA (jee-vuh) means the living soul. For this metro Detroit based band music and soul go hand in hand. Mixing influences ranging from classic rock like Zeppelin, Pink Floyd and Hendrix to Motown and R&B Artists like Prince, Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson their sound is described as "modern rock with a classic soul".

JIVA recently released their new album titled "Breathe" which is available in select stores throughout Michigan, and available digitally through jivamusic.net, Itunes, Amazon and Napster. Previous JIVA singles "Set Me Free" and "Crazy" made their mark on FM radio in Detroit as well as college stations and other FM radio across the midwest and earned the band a spot in the best of 2009 homeboys show on Detroit's 89X.

JIVA has been steadily spreading their sound across the midwest over the past 4 years playing over 250 shows all over Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Indiana and even making their way down to Nashville Tenn. In 2009 JIVA won the Kid Rock/Jim Beam battle of the bands and performed at the Comerica Park Kid Rock pre show. JIVA has opened for several national acts including Motown Legends The Contours, Jackyl, Veruca Salt, Sponge, Amanda Overmyer (American Idol), The Aftermidnight Prjoect, Lucas Rossi, and the Kid Rock Pre Show.

The new JIVA single “Rise” is currently featured on 101.9 FM WDET. The band is also featured on several Internet stations and podcasts as well as college and other FM radio across the midwest. In early 2010 JIVA picked up a sponsorship from national liquor company Fireball Whisky.The Band consists of Michael Turner (vocals), Nick Behnan (guitar), Mike Nagy (bass), and Leland McCann (drums).
