Bio

“JIVA has been steadily spreading their motor city message of soulful rock with a kick throughout Michigan and the Midwest. They produce a sound that is fierce and funky and connects to the heart as well as the feet” - Detroit Live Magazine.

The word JIVA (jee-vuh) means the living soul. For this metro Detroit based group rock and soul go hand in hand, mixing influences from retro rockers like Led Zeppelin, and Lenny Kravitz with the melodically focused sounds of R&B artists like Michael Jackson and Prince. Their previous EP included the single Set Me Free which made its mark on FM radio in Detroit as well as college stations and FM radio across the Midwest. Set Me Free earned the band a spot in the 89X (88.7 FM) best of 2009 Homeboys show, which featured 89X’s pick of the best songs released in 2009 by Detroit based artists. In 2010 JIVA won the Kid Rock/Jim Beam battle of the bands which earned them a performance at Kid Rock’s Comerica Park show. JIVA recently did a live interview on WDET (101.9 FM) on Ann Delisi’s essential music show and Ann has since put the new JIVA single “Rise” in to regular rotation this is JIVA has been touring the Midwest non stop over the last three years in support of their independently released music, winning the band a loyal following all over Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, and even making their way down to Nashville Tennessee.

JIVA now releases their first full length album titled Breathe. Recorded at Rustbelt Studios with producers Eric Hogeymeyer and Al Sutton (Kid Rock, Pop Evil, Kiss) and Pearl Sound studios with producer Chuck Alkazian (Bob Seger, Sponge, Royce da 5’9) The sound of the album is fresh and familiar. The tracks Crazy, and We Survive have a Lenny Kravitz-ish R&B rock vibe while Glory, Rise and Father lean more toward the ethereal textured sounds of a Janes Addiction or Kings of Leon. The track Time has a classic sound similar to Ray Lamontagne with a Motown groove and major radio hook.
