Jason “JJ Spins” Durant was born March 31st 1979 in Attleboro, MA. Being from the northeast, New York, Boston , and Providence had major roles in the development of the style of the man who would become JJ Spins. JJ was first introduced to music by Ernie Baraiolo, a friend of his mother (and a Berkley graduate), by practicing his saxophones for endless hours, to the delight of young Jason’s ears. His passion for music transferred to JJ and awoke his own hunger for self expression. Some of his major influences include Earth, Wind, and Fire, Marvin Gaye, The Isley Bros, and Herbie Hancock. Through the years JJ experimented with many instruments, finding one that allowed him some emotional catharsis. THE TURNTABLE!

In 1992, at the tender age of 14, JJ was offered his first gig at his new middle school, his first day. Sound crazy? Just wait. JJ had been trying for years to land the DJ gig at his previous school without success. An abrupt change of venue landed him in a new school with all new faces. While this could end up as a possibly lonely situation, JJ found the silver lining. He decided to make a fresh start of his new surroundings and commit himself to the pages of history forever. Long story short, school needs DJ, aspiring DJ steps forward. Little did he know that a single engagement would become a career. For the remainder of the term, JJ was the go-to-guy for any scholastic extra-curricular events. This 4 year trend continued through his high school years, landing him and internship with WWKX radio. His days consisted of assisting the Morning Drive from 6-11am. His responsibilities included interviewing recording artists, setting up remote recording locations, and post production editing. Through the connections he had made at WWKX, JJ acquired a meeting with Kent Management’s Tony Avicolli. As the entertainment director for over forty nightclubs, Tony saw JJ’s talent and began booking him for larger and larger gigs.

After three years solid years of remixing on the fly, beat juggling, and advanced scratching techniques, JJ came to the realization that music production was the next logical step. Working in cooperation with DJ Biggie, they founded Def Child Records in 2001 in Warwick, RI. The founding idea behind Def Child Records was to provide radio-ready remixes for indie and major record labels alike. Through years of dedication to the art of the remix, Def Child acquired numerous contracts for production, which have been released on national and international levels. This kind of exposure gave JJ the opportunity to collaborate with the likes of Crooklyn Clans Crack4djs, YourRemix.com and AV8 Records. As of now JJ has countless remixes released and well as they say, the rest will be history.
