"Hip Hop Canada"

Winnipeg, MB – J. Juan just released new audio for his take on “Ladies” from The Warm Up mixtape by J. Cole (it’s that track that samples “Ladies” by Lee Fields & The Expressions). Our prairie guys have been on their lady-killing games, lately. It’s kind of awesome to see so much love for the women.

J. Juan dedicated this song to that special lady in his life. The track was recorded last year, but went unreleased from a collection of tracks that J. Juan titled Floetry. The track was produced by Andrew Yankiwski for Precursor Productions. Check it out below. - Sarah Sussaman

"Hip Hop Canada"

Winnipeg, MB – Winnipeg-based rapper, J. Juan, has just dropped a dope new track called “Do It 2 Ya.” Juan laces his vocals over the beat from Childish Gambino’s “Do Ya Like.” It’s a sexy little beat with a suave R&B undertone (and lyric sampling from Adele’s “Melt My Heart to Stone”).

J. Juan makes the track his own. And he’s got some nice cheeky rhymes: “You would think she’s from Saskatchewan/ She loves that rough rider.” Production for the track was provided by Charlie Stumbles. Give it a listen below. And stay tuned, because J. Juan is dropping a seven-track EP next month. And this joint is going to be on it. - Sarah Sussman

Bio

J.Juan is a solo artist from Winnipeg, MB. If required to choose a genre he would categorize under Hip-Hop/Rap, but it goes far beyond that. His top influential artists span from many genres and reflect throughout his music. They include artists like 2pac Shakur, Michael Jackson, The Beatles, Aaliyah and Bob Marley.

Beginning to write at a very young age, J.Juan first experimented with poetry and short stories. Although he always loved music, he never considered writing to a beat until it was suggested to him in high school. After years of practicing and perfecting his craft, he was ready to record and release a studio-mixed EP.

With a deep admiration for lyricism he studied and dissected music from his favourite artists as a child. Listening to music became personal therapy which he accredits having a large impact on his upbringing. He idolized the intensity and lyrical genius of artists like 2pac and MJ, while appreciating the easy-listening and creativity from The Beatles and Bob Marley. Current influences include Drake, J.Cole, Kanye West and The Weeknd.

Adapting what he's learned from his favourite artists, J.Juan is able to combine and blend different genres while putting his own spin on it. Priding himself with a clear, smooth unique flow, he displays a variety of songs containing heavily-influenced poetry and lyricism (hence the name of the first mixtape, "Floetry"). Much of the lyrical content reflects personal experiences/relationships leaving his life as an open book for the audience. In other songs, he writes of events that may have not happened to him personally but interprets from a first person view.

His last few releases have garnered attention from HipHopCanada.com, NorthStarHipHop.com and various other blogs that have covered his music in the past year. With multiple performances, two studio-recorded mixtapes since 2012 and a third on the way, he hopes to highlight his story through his music.
