Bio

A native of Northern VA, Jon Laine always listened to music his mother brought home to the likes of Stevie, Johnny Mathis, Glen Campbell, Nana Maskouri, Steve Miller, Kenny Rogers, Marvin Gaye, Duke Ellington and several Haitian artists.

Jon decided to pursue his dream as the first in his family to attend college. While attending George Mason University, he made several opportunities to perform with a variety of artists including the National Symphony Orchestra, American Youth Philharmonic, Aspen Concert Jazz Ensemble, Disneyland Collegiate All Star band and all the university ensembles.

His love of jazz earned him a spot with Paul Jeffrey's (Thelonious Monk) Aspen Jazz program through. It was there that he would enhance his skills as a drumset artist performing with Billy Harper, Louie Bellson, John Hicks and Charlie Byrd.

Disneyland quickly picked him up a few years later, after auditioning 1500 college drummers, as the lead resident drummer for the big band.

After living on the west coast, he came back to the DC area to finish school and continued his now professional drumming career. Artists like Erykah Badu, El DeBarge, Aretha Franklin and Hiphop emcee Common have had the pleasure to perform with Jon at the wheels.

He later formed the hiphop group UrbanMinds, who went on as a popular act in the DC area and started the LIVE band nights at a local club, which soon sparked attention all over the area. They recorded one album with LIVE instruments and production all by Jon and soon realized his other true love....music production.

For the past 3 years, Jon has continued to make beats and produce for several artists including W. Ellington Felton, Labtekwon and Jenee to name a few.

His most recent project is an instrumental beat cd in honor of his favorite, J Dilla. He is in the process of recording other projects, including his debut LP, "to live and die in va..." On this debut LP, J shares stories about his life as a kid growing up in the 80's. From broken hearts, to broken drum sticks. An eclectic collection of beats, rhymes and singing about the life of J.

Jon is currently on a national tour with UK soul sensation OMAR.
