Bio

At a time when Hip Hop has become seemingly more self-destructive and less creative, a new shining ray of hope breaks out of Greenville, North Carolina (Peaty Pablo's Hometown). The man heading up this next chapter of the game will be known to the world as J. Locke. J. Locke (born Almar J. Locke) is no stranger to the pressure that comes with being in the spotlight and in an industry that so desperately needs him now. He has performed in many states, including Texas (Houston), New York (Brooklyn and Manhattan), Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In 2001, J. Locke (then under JeanDahl Management) was shopping for deals and got the attention of the executives at EPIC RECORDS. The label seemed very interested in J. Locke's project and wanted to pursue possibly signing him. However, before the project could even get on the table for discussions, the 911 tragedies occurred throwing the music industry into one of the biggest slumps the business had ever seen. Therefore, the signing opportunity was out and J. Locke soon left JeanDahl Management. J. Locke continued to pursue his career as a free agent. Due to his love for performing, he constantly stays on the road with his newly formed band Volume 1. Volume 1 is a four-piece (bass, keys, guitar, and drums) band that travels on the road with him when he tours across the country. These travels have developed his fan base and popularity. J. Locke has not only become a well-established artist, but also a well-oiled marketing machine. His music has taken him to the next level. He is currently working on a September college tour with Volume 1. J. Locke's compassion for those who suffer from devastating illnesses has compelled him to use his musical and organizational talents to help those less fortunate. He has performed and helped organize numerous fundraisers for HIV/AIDS charities as well as sponsored several public service announcements for organizations. He is currently the spokesperson for a Greenville, North Carolina-based non-profit HIV/AIDS Awareness organization, LIFE MUSIC. He is currently working on his self-titled debut album, which has already being seen by some as a classic record. His debut album will most likely be one of the most well-rounded and strongest releases of the year. He has been compared to artists such as Common, Black Thought, Talib Kweli, and Jay-Z. J. Locke promises that this album will not only be the real deal, but also a total package. "One thing about this album is that it takes you through stages. It is truly packed with not only hit records, but also has well thought out story lines that are depicted from real life situations."
