J. L. Washington, born and raised in LaGrange, a small town in Eastern North Carolina, is where the journey of music begins. The interest of music began at the age of five years old, singing “Yes, Jesus Love Me” taught by his late Aunt Lola Maye. J. L. Washington, throughout his life has had opportunities to share his love of music by singing with local church choirs, school choirs and quartet groups. J. L. Washington, has face many challenges in life, from being sexually molested at the age of seven, dealing with an alcoholic grandfather who was abusive, being homeless, suffer from low self-esteem and dealing with drug addiction, just to name a few. God and music is what preserve this young man to share his message of God’s love to the world. J. L. Washington truly knows what it means to be delivered and set free from the bondage of life issues. J. L. Washington is a husband, father, singer/songwriter, motivational speaker, peer educator and advocate for individuals living with HIV/AIDS. J. L. Washington purpose behind the music is to bring about awareness of the many challenges that many face and the power of the spoken word. His message encourages people to speak the words of life and healing that will bring about change within spiritually, emotionally and physically. His first recording “Speak the Word & Love” is a song that encourages people to speak over their own lives, maintain a positive outlook no matter what life brings them, learning to love and forgive one another so that the process of healing can begin.
