Bio
The Down-Low:
Jay Mathey has been playing soulful rock throughout the southeast for over four years. No matter what venue, the stage (to him) "feels like home."
"There is something spiritual about the connection I feel when I hit that first note. It's almost like a drug, a gripping addiction I will never shake."
The Band:
Jay has played with the same four guys for the past seven years. This tight four-piece group not only displays outstanding onstage chemistry, but posesses a strong work ethic as well.
"I think one reason we've kept the same line-up over the years, is because we check our egos at the door. Plus, we really just love to play together."
Founded in early 2001, The Jay Mathey Band spent their first four years playing gigs around the Carolinas and working on singer/songwriter Jay Mathey's original material. This eventually led to the release of the 2005 Lemonade/Oarfin records album, "Unfamous." Since circulated two years ago, Unfamous has sold thousands of copies.
*Jay also plays solo acoustic gigs
and duo gigs with Marc Peskier (saxophone).
The Skinny:
Mathey, one of the area's top acts, plays over 300 shows a year. He has been the house artist for the Verison Wireless Ampitheatre, opening for artists such as John Mayer, Tom Petty, James Taylor and others.
Influences:
Marc Cohn, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, Martin Sexton. Dave Matthews, Marc Broussard, Tom Petty & Eric Clapton
