""Mercer's Soft Sound Mirrors Mayer""

If the likes of John Mayer and the Goo Goo Dolls can make crowds swoon with some sensitive acoustic balladry, then Jason Mercer is likely to become the Forest City's heartthrob troubadour. Having already won the 2006 London Music Award for most popular singer/songwriter and spreading his tenderly sung melodies through his debut album, Mercer is on a solid track to developing a loyal fanbase.

Of course, he was counted among some of the best popular music acts at The University of Western Ontario; the school's Bands and Songwriter's Society included Mercer on its charity compilation disc Western Rock's, released earlier this year.

The hometown favourite plays regularly, making stops at a variety of venues to promote his coffeehouse-style folk pop.

Bio

“Music is almost like a selfish love for me… I become my own therapist when I write and sing, and it’s absolutely amazing if people can relate.”

A true singer/songwriter, Jason Mercer has much to communicate. Lucky for his listeners, his method of communication is rhythmic, honest and captivating. Whether singing solo or as the lead singer and guitarist for his successful alt/rock band Metro4, Mercer’s sound has touched fans throughout many parts of the world, whether he meant to or not.

His sound is pure; his story is simple. Mercer, who grew up in London, Ontario, had humble beginnings. He spent hours listening closely while his mother sang, unconsciously becoming inspired by her voice. He played 90’s albums by artists such as Brian McKnight and Boys II Men on repeat. Eventually, he discovered his own sound with guitar in hand and never turned back. His “story,” you would say, evolved from a pure passion to make music. His lyrics have been described as an inner search. Perhaps so, but ultimately it is clear that in this quest, music is both his destination and his journey. And it seems he is finding his way just fine.

Mercer has released two albums with his band Metro4 as well as one solo album. He has opened for Stone Temple Pilots, Sloan, The Trews, The Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, The Stills and many more. His music has topped the Myspace charts, and has been featured on CBC radio as well as CMT’s reality show “Unstable”. His voice can also be heard in the American feature film “The Camera’s Eye”, and throughout Southwestern Ontario in commercials and radio jingles. In 2009 it was Mercer who was selected to play “John Lennon” in the world-renowned “Fringe Festival's” Beatles Tribute. He has also been the official musician for the London sector of the MS Society's annual Bike Tour since 2005.

Mercer brings a charming, likable personality to the stage. Combined with his boyish good looks and soft, melodic, acoustic style, he has developed quite a fan base across Southwestern Ontario.

An article in the London Free Press quoted:

"If the likes of John Mayer and the Goo Goo Dolls can make crowds swoon with some sensitive acoustic balladry, then Jason Mercer is likely to become the Forest City's heartthrob troubadour.”

Jason Mercer is well on his way. He can be found performing at charity events, opening for major rock bands, doing cover shows at local patios and bars and rocking the stage with Metro4 at venues like Roger's Sarnia Bayfest for more than 15,000 fans.

His story is still in the opening chapters, but is building with excitement and anticipation of what is to come. It might be a selfish love of music that motivates Mercer, but sharing his personal journey and captivating audiences along the way doesn’t seem selfish at all.
