"FOR THE RECORD – VANCOUVER’S HIP-HOP SCENE"

The Future of Vancouver’s Local Music Scene

Pj Ouellet -better known as JML in the music world- is a local music artist, describing his style as a mix between Hip-Hop and Pop. The man’s dabbled in just about every role in Vancouver’s music scene – from songwriting, producing to promoting local shows. Through all his experience, Ouellet has observed the local music scene and formed a few opinions over time.

“You can be the most talented person in the room, but if you can’t get someone to listen to you or can’t get people to come to your shows, you’re not gonna get very far.”

– Pj Ouellet / JML, Vancouver Music Artist

Check out this episode of For the Record, where JML gives us some insight on the highs and lows of the Vancouver Hip-Hop/Rap/RnB scene. Does he think Vancouver’s music industry can eventually climb up to the same level as Toronto? Listen to find out! - BCIT News

Bio

JML is a young artist from the Fraser Valley that is slowly becoming a mainstay in the Vancouver music scene. Boasting a sound driven by powerful, melodic vocals, JML possesses a varied discography drawing influences from a diverse set of influences ranging from Pop Rock to RnB to New Wave Hip-Hop. Capable of jumping from upbeat, melodic hip-hop sets to ambient, crooner-friendly settings, JML is one of the most exciting upstarts in British Columbia in recent years, as made evident by his recent bookings at the Westward Music Festival (The Vogue @ Vancouver) and headlining the Jam in Jubilee Afterparty in 2019 (Jubilee Park @ Abbotsford). Having played a variety of settings over the course of the past year, ranging from Fortune Sound Club, to the Vogue, to outdoor-concert series such as Jam in Jubilee, JML carries an extensive amount of live-stage experience and is comfortable working with both live bands and stripped-down set-ups, and has also developed a reputation for bringing both a gripping set and a hungry crowd to every show.
