MYROL
Great country harmonies married to well-written songs and superb musical accompaniment.

The project is a distinctive vocal sound only close family members can. They’ve been described as alt. country sweethearts, but in reality, they are pure country, very much in the vein of the Judds or the Sweethearts of the Rodeo. This, their debut album is completely self penned by Joanne with Haley helping out with Paper This Walls. That song typifies the whole record, a strident beat, great harmonies, Dobro to the fore and a sparse arrangement. - Maverick Country Music Magazine UK

"Record Reviews - Larry Delaney"

There's a lot of really strong stuff here...the slow and haunting Somewhere Inside and the bluesy, honky tonk tune Southrailway & Second Street are highlight moments, followed closely by the edgy Paper Thin Walls. The hands-down winner on the album comes in the hurtin' tune If Hearts Could Really Be Broken, and this one deserves to be a radio hit. - Country Music News - March 2007

The evening began with Myrol, a country folk outfit from Edmonton based around the songwriting and vocal talents of Joanne and Haley Myrol. The mother and daughter led quartet performed admirably...the pair was wonderful. The inclusion of Gord Matthews was a wise decision. If the name doesn't sound familiar to you, it should - Matthews has spent several years backing up such notable performers as Ian Tyson and k.d. lang. He was a member of the Reclines and is an amazing musician in his own right.

MYROL
Great country harmonies married to well-written songs and superb musical accompaniment

Myrol is Canadian mother and daughter duo Joanne & Haley Myrol. Mum has been singing, performing and touring for several years fronting various country-styled bands across the North Country.
The project is a distinctive vocal sound only close family members can. They’ve been descried as alt.country sweethearts, but in reality, they are pure country, very much in the vein of the Judds or the Sweethearts of the Rodeo. This, their debut album is completely self penned by Joanne with Haley helping out with Paper This Walls. That song typifies the whole record, a strident beat, great harmonies, Dobro to the fore and a sparse arrangement. Lyrically, the songs mainly explore relationship issues, from the emotion upheaval of letting go of your offspring in Mother Daughter, the dutiful stay at home wife fighting back in It Don’t Work That Way or the kiss-off to the guy who’s just walked out of with You Made Me Hard. Joanne also revisits Alberta where she grew up with the fond remembrance of a sixteen year old in Summer then dancing and drinking the night away in Southrailway & Second Street.
Some of Canada’s finest musicians provided the superb accompaniment including Gord Matthews (lead, rhythm guitar, Dobro) Ted Herebenuik (bass) Chad Melchert (drums) Tony Michael (fiddle and Mandolin) John Towill (bass) Thom Moon (drums) and Harpdog Brown (mouthharp) Matthews really makes the disc with his Dobro and guitar picking. There are a couple of “hidden’ tracks, the autobiographical This Old Guitar and the beautiful A Mother’s Prayer. Regularly coming into contact with performers on the outer fringes of successful careers, I found The Beat Goes On a most telling song. We’ve all seen them, driving from one gig to another, playing to a small, but dedicated audience, and never quite making that gigantic leap from cult hero to well-established star. It has little to do with talent, but everything to do with luck, timing and a fickle steadfastly ignoring the genuine talented singers, songwriters and musicians pounding the highways with the next to nothing when it comes to financial rewards. At this time, Joanne and Haley Myrol are very much in that category, but on the basis of this excellent album, deserve to be up there with the best. So go out and buy this CD and help make it happen for them. AC

This is the article that appeared in the november 2006 edition of Country Gazette - written by the editor himself Hans van Dam
his is the translation :
Myrol is a mother/daughter duo from Canada. They share their love for country and take that feeling into their songs and music.
Our country has already heard them before, these classy ladies, mostly in the north of our country. In february there will be a more extended tour, says Eric Merveulen (McEnt Management)
Myrol is (mother) Joanne and (daughter) Haley. Their songs, the musicians and their producers are 100% percent canadian.
Joanne wrote every song and once daughter Haley cooperated in "Paper thin Walls"
Two very good voices that harmonize beatifully. Comparision to the Judds are not out of place in songs like "Somewhere inside" -very real. With their canadian musicians, Myrol is somewhere between acoustics and electric country. The two very beautiful the way they bring it. Joanne is not unknowm among her canadian colleagues and wrote songs for a.o. Fred J Eaglesmith, Larry dea, Lisa Brokop.
11 songs on this CD, amont which "Mother Daughter", "You made me hard", Summer". Neverthless they keep something hidden for those who wait a little after the last song 'The Beat goes on", gets -after a minute's waiting- two acoustics tracks, good for aorund 7 minutes. Those who want to know the titels of those and the lyrics have to go to www.myrolmusic.com Most of the times I am not tempted to listen to those hidden tracks, but they're so beautiful and pure that I did listen to them : "This old guitar is my bvest friend" and 'To Away - A Mother's Lullaby". The album is released on the Canadian Columbus label and distributed by Rounder Europe."

They play music since quite some time, but it's only two years tht Mother Joanne and Daughter Haley Myrol have been performing together as the Duo Myrol. In Canada they've played major events and also toured New Zealand and Australia. Being on stage with stars such as Sammy Kershaw or the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and getting Group of the Year awards as the one from Billy Block's Western Beat Magazine is no news to them.
Now they present their new Album Your Heart Is My Heart Too. As the CD starts off with Mother And Daughter, you immediately realize that these two artists will be more successful together than if each followed her own career. Their voices are in perfect harmony. Most of the songs on the CD are traditionally arranged and you can find Bluegrass, Country and Folksongs, peacefully cooperating on this album. However, the rocking side of things is no news to the Duo and they proof it with It Don't Work That Way, as an example.
My favorites are - beside the first song - the beautiful traditional If Hearts Could Really Be Broken and the track Summer. The eleven songs written by mama Joanne (whereof Haley has co-penned Paper Thin Walls) are only one side of the album. I wondered why The Beat Goes On would rock for more than thirteen minutes until I found two more excellent songs hidden in that track.
I always was a big admirer of duets and harmonies. The Sweethearts of the Rodeo made their way to the charts back in the 80's. Mother Joanne and daughter Haley Myrol represent the best I've heard ever since. www.myrolmusic.com

Myrol - Your Heart Is My Heart Too

http://www.jacobvisser.nl/cdnovember2006/cd30november.htm
Genre: country / folk / rock / blues

Translation
The CD cover is not really promising but luckily the album "Your Heart Is My Heart Too" of MYROL is not as frumpy as you think when you see the artwork. MYROL is a Canadian duo of mother Joanne and daughter Haley. Because of the mother daughter combination they are many times compared with the Judds but this gives not enough justice to MYROL. Just like the Judds the voices blend beautiful together but MYROL is in a musical way more adventures. Traditional Nashville Country music is the base of this album but mother and daughter also touch music directions like pop, rock and blues. Your Heart Is My Heart Too is not as worthy as the first notes make you think and is sometimes even nicely 'raw'. We advise you to listen without prejudice and then make your own opinion.

Myrol is an Alberta based duo that blends stunning female voices with insightful and powerful original songwriting. The Americana/Roots/Alt Country duo are often backed up by a band of fantastic seasoned professionals, but are versatile and often play as a trio and a four piece. Although, one might categorize their music as Americana, Joanne and Haley are talented musicians, renowned vocalists and award winning songwriters who traverse through many genres of music weaving an elaborate musical tapestry that ultimately serves the song.

The girls have been promoting their new album 'Blue Moon Away' - #2 for them. It features songs by the duo as well as co-writes with Fred Eaglesmith, CFR champion Bull Rider and cowboy poet Dan Lowry, and Nashville's Tim Taylor. The album also features some of Alberta's best and most talented musicians as well as Grammy Nominee-Nashville based Tammy Rogers who plays for The Steel Drivers and Emmylou Harris on fiddle and mandolin and Jeff King, who currently plays guitar for Reba McEntire and George Strait, are on the new album.

Myrol took home the Fans Choice and Best Group/Duo for the Association of Country Music in Alberta. They have won a World Billboard Songwriting Competition Award for 'The Mighty Peace', as well as multiple awards from the Calgary Folk Festival Songwriting Competition for their songs over the last three years. The girls have been featured on the main stage at the Big Valley Jamboree several times, and at the Calgary Folk Festival and most recently have opened for Johnny Reid, Travis Tritt and Fred Eaglesmith,.

And they have toured Europe, Lithuania, Australia, The U.S.A. and Canada, at times playing to crowds of 30,000 and more. They are signed to Icon/Fontana/Universal and Rounder Europe at the same time with their first album titled MYROL and are currently signed with Continental Europe (formally Rounder Europe) and have even performed for Prince Edward and The Prince of Monaco at the World Games VIP party.

This classy mother/daughter duo have a unique kinship and their love and loyalty to each other is evident and shines through each song they sing on stage when they perform together. If you haven't had a chance to see Myrol perform, then there is no doubt that you'll be eagerly anticipating your next opportunity to listen to these women sing.

"Joanne Myrol is a singer of unusual charisma. I have performed on the same bill with literally hundreds of singers and players. Everyone who dares get up in front of an audience deserves respect for trying, but few actually reach out to the hearts and feelings of listeners. This is what I refer to as charisma. I have performed on the same bill with Joanne Myrol. This woman is a fine interpreter of a melody, and I'm sure will go on to become a well recognized voice in Canadian Country and Pop cross-over radio." - Valdy (Valdemar Horsdal)
