Bio

«Hammered Pennies» : is a new sound and new album for Jo Bergeron who lovingly labored over every note of each song not counting the days. The result? An Acoustic Indie Rock of an album that harkens back to the folk rock of the 70’s.

This first solo outing for Jo Bergeron, recorded with a live in the studio spirit, personifies a natural progression of the sound of Embrained, Jo’s ex-group, while still conserving the California punk rock roots of his first band, Wideload. Certain melodies are from the same school as Bright eyes, Arcade fire or the Tallest Man On Earth.

The production of« Hammered Pennies » is signed Jean-François Côté (Pépé), while a line-up of experimented musicians - Louis Fernandez (Guitars – Pascale Picard Band), Michel Bélanger (Drums - Wideload, Embrained) and Alex Blais (Bass – I.No, Pépé) - graces the album.
Jo Bergeron already has some heavy Rock n Roll baggage including his previous project Embrained (« Save Myself » EP, 2008), lauded by the Montreal fanzine punkmeup.com :

« A group that will surprise a lot of acoustic music lovers with something refreshing. The city of Quebec offers us an excellent acoustic indie rock band that sets itself a part. The music is solid and mature.[…] A group to keep on your radar. »

Ìn 2002, Jo took home first place in CONGA music contest with his band Wideload and then released the albums « Turn Me On » (2003) and « Une Seule Vie » (2005), from which six songs carved a spot on the commercial airwaves. The videoclip Transaction climbed to number 1 on the top five of Musique Plus in 2006, and was also featured on the series French Kiss at Much Music. In addition to the more than 250 shows under his belt with his previous bands, including a run with the 2005 edition of Vans warped Tour during its Quebec leg, Jo has also had the occasion to open for other great acts such as, The New Cities, Matthew Good Band, Planet Smashers, SUM 41, Grim Skunk, American Hi-Fi, Guttermouth, and Theory of a Dead Man.

Album Available June 11th 2012 (Nomade/Outside)
