"MULTI-ARTIST JODI NELSON AIMS TO RAISE $100K FOR RAINN"

“Amazing!” “Phenomenal!” “Powerful!” These were the words that described Jodi Nelson’s performance at the recent Chasing Life Tour Benefiting RAINN/Live Benefit Concert in Pasadena to launch a U.S. College Tour to promote her feature film CHASING LIFE (distributed by OK Film Co.) and its Original Movie Soundtrack, in which Nelson produced, wrote and starred, as well as raise funds and awareness about sexual abuse for RAINN (Rape, Abuse, Incest National Network). She aims to raise $100,000 on the Tour campaign.

“We had such a positive reaction at the Benefit concert for what this Tour campaign is all about, which gives me an immense amount of satisfaction. While street teaming, I had people coming up to me to sign autographs and that was fun, but most importantly people are now really “getting” what I’m trying to do here - I sense a rallying cry in the midst. It’s such an amazing opportunity, not only to get my artistic voice heard with this entire project I’ve created, but it also allows me to provide a vehicle for RAINN, another voice to get the word out into the community,” said Nelson.

Proceeds from the CHASING LIFE TOUR will go to RAINN, the nation's largest anti-sexual assault organization. RAINN operates the National Sexual Assault Hotline at 1.800.656.HOPE and carries out programs to prevent sexual assault, help victims and ensure that rapists are brought to justice. Co-founded by Atlantic Recording Artist Tori Amos, RAINN has partnered with Nelson and the CHASING LIFE TOUR.

"NEW 'HIP CHIK' TAKES MUSIC WORLD FOR A RIDE"

Her voice is simply mesmerizing. I can't remember the last time I heard this much pure pop talent captured on one CD. I absolutely love the sound she gets from her band as it mixes with her incredible vocal delivery. Each compliments each other in perfect harmony. A talented entertainer, songwriter and vocalist, she seems to have all the bases covered. - Victoria Advocate

"CD Debut Review, "Maybe, I Will...""

After winning a grant from a Jim Bean competition, Jodi Nelson set out to finish up recording her first CD, Maybe I Will. Such a fortunate artist; having appeared on the Austin Music Network and receiving rotation on KNOR Radio in Dallas, Jodi Nelson seems to be winning the game. Now that her first CD has been released, Jodi has to see if the public thinks she's all that.
A woman who looks to Madonna, PJ Harvey and Tori Amos as influences seems to be on the right track. The most outstanding quality of the debut is Jodi's vocal style. Jodi does not whine as so many pop female singers do these days, instead she eerily seduces the listener into her world. Her seductive, smooth voice deserves the passionate attention that listeners will give her.

Cool River is a trippy, worldbeat kind of song with haunting vocals overriding the instrumentation. This is where Jodi is at her best. She is truly an artist like PJ Harvey, where the music should only enhance her singing. Cool River makes the listener aware that the instrumentalists backing her are quite qualified, but you always center your attention to her voice. Unfortunately, the lyrics you so closely follow are too repetitive in this song, so you feel like you aren't given enough. Instead, if you try to sit back & enjoy the mood of the song, the listener will enjoy the vibes of her smooth voice.

Time Suckage is a complete 360 from the rest of her material. The one minute song is more of an angry tone, communicating the strength in an otherwise, often solemn artist. Good to see that Jodi hold the power of aggression even though she seldom shows it. Don't Give In seems to be the bar dancing hit that every performer needs for the live set. I imagine that Jodi truly feeds off the audience participation for her emotion on this song. The only problem I have with the entire CD is that at times, the music of the band tends to ride above Jodi's vocals. This is standard for most bands, however, like Madonna and Tori Amos, the focal point should always be on the vocals.

My personal favorite, Isolate is a mournful song greatly enhanced by the guitar playing. The somber vocals hit those melancholy buttons inside me that I appreciate most in life and in music. When Jodi shares her deepest, most fearful thoughts is when the combination of her voice and songwriting shine. Sharing with the listener the utmost point of tragedy and sorrow is the most giving an artist can be. Jodi is comfortable to open up her wound to her audience and heal herself while admitting her fears.
