Jody Brock

I am hugely influenced from the soulful history of music, artists like Etta James, Billy Holliday, Bill Withers, Donny Hathaway, Al Green, Nina Simone Stevie Wonder, to current artists such as Jessie J, Adele and Daniel Merriweather. I do take a lot of influences from female vocalist because of their tones and delivery.

My sound is self titled Alternative soul and I call it this because I take so many musical styles and express them in my own way so to name it simply soul music or the blues would not be fitting.

I think what sets me aside from other artists is my delivery in lyrics and performance, I write my music from points of views, experiences, and subjects that I feel matter and If I do write about love I make it count because I want my audience to feel what I am saying and I want them to relate to the subjects I am portraying. I also feel interaction and image play a hand in what makes an artist successful to an audience so I try my best to express myself in every way possible from fashion, instrumentation, lyrics and performance.

I attended the BRIT school for four years and learnt so many valuable things along the way about the industry and how everything works, I believe this is a vital part of surviving within the industry. I like to know exactly what and where things are going down. I am very head strong and know exactly what I want.
