Hank's and Mangold have made an ambitious and brave record. The texture and sounds and flows may surprise some of his fans. But it's clear that SIDE OF THE ROAD was an enjoyable and perhaps eye-opening experience for Hanks' as well as perhaps a validation that even after all these years, he still is one of the best and he still has the ability to kick an ass when it needs kicking.

Over a multi-decade musical relationship, Hanks and Mangold learned early that "it's all about the song!! Without good songs to start with, you got nuthin'". Their influences can range from Steely Dan to Marvin Gaye to Howlin' Wolf. Jody Hanks is one of the last great breed of American big voice rock singers. Danny Mangold's production and playing is extremely polished and sophisticated without being overly "tech-ey". Mangold has played guitar for Charles Neville(Neville Bros.) Chris Barron ( Spin Doctors) and Ann Wilson ( Heart)
