Since the inception of Jody Shelton’s band in early 2004, people attending the live show have had the same reaction: “You’ve been playing together how long?” In those few short months the band has managed to record their new demo Rise, recorded and produced in guitarist’s Eric Wilhelm’s home studio, while simultaneously creating the sound of a veteran rock establishment. One of the most fascinating aspects of this band is not only the talent of each player involved, but how the member’s individual influences and styles have interwoven to create such an amalgamated sound.
Singer/songwriter/keyboardist Jody Shelton’s southern roots and classical background are evident in his penchant for heartbreaking and epic soundscapes, and it is these influences that serve as the foundation for his classic pop melodies. And while there may be classical, jazz, and country elements in the music, Jody’s is definitely a modern rock band. Eric Wilhelm (guitar/production), Ricardo Rodriguez (bass), and Donovan Pyle (drums) bring grit and drama to the epics, poetry to the ballads and soul to the grooves. Nowhere is this dynamic more prevalent in their live shows, which remain infused with their unique energy and charisma. The individual personalities of each band member are fully present onstage, as Jody serves as the centerpiece and anchor, bringing familiarity, warmth and showmanship to a truly engaging live show.
