Ever the contrarian, it wasn't until Joe Chammas graduated from high school and several easy opportunities to take formal guitar lessons had passed him by that he decided to give the instrument a real shot. The lyrics he was writing at that time were already beginning to take a turn from rap and hip-hop toward folk and pop.
He focused all of his energy on songwriting for the next few years and started to develop his current acoustic sound. He honed his craft at friends’ parties in basements and backyards, at open mic nights, and eventually a string of full sets at local lounges and coffee shops. He took a year with some close friends to work on his first album, it was called "the window ep" and it was released on July 18th, 2008.
Over the next few years Joe wrote and performed wherever he could, and by November 2012 he put out his first full album "Wiser Creatures."
He bounced around a few Toronto venues for a while before deciding to try to write and record a brand new original song each week for a year. By August of 2014, he had 52 new songs under his belt. He spent a few mostly silent years with songwriter burnout after that, but wrote three new songs that came together on an EP called "Friends & Liars" which he released on New Year's Day, 2020.
He's currently scraping together the best of those other 52 songs for another full-fledged album that he hopes to release very soon...
