Black Kat (Katrina)

Black Kat (Katrina)

Black Kat prowling on a voodoo night
There’s a silence in New Orleans, not a band in sight
Evil pouring in from every side
Black Kat came to town and the music died

I’ve known damn well, since I was two
You never let a black cat walk in front of you
Though I saw her coming from miles away
I’ll never understand what made me stay
She had nasty breath and a dirty scowl
She had a bad mean streak and a frightening howl
She had a hundred miles of tail and giant paws
She ripped through all the music with her mighty claws

Black Kat prowling on a voodoo night
There’s a silence in New Orleans, not a band in sight
Evil pouring in from every side
Black Kat came to town and the music died

She showed no mercy, she just didn’t care
She tore up everything and threw it everywhere
Now I’ve seen other cats in my day
But I never saw another one act this way
I just don’t know what she did it for
I only know Big Easy ain’t so easy no more
She was mad as hell with nothing to lose
She blew away the jazz and she drowned the blues

Black Kat prowling on a voodoo night
There’s a silence in New Orleans, not a band in sight
Evil pouring in from every side
Black Kat came to town and the music died

I thought it was over, I thought it was dead
I thought the only song I’d hear would be the blues in my head
But as I crawled away, feeling pretty low
Some old cat grabbed a horn and he started to blow
It was the sweetest sound I could ever hear
A solitary trumpet crying in the air
Through all the grief, it made me smile
We’re gonna live again, …..New Orleans style!

Black Kat slithered on out of town
She wasn’t bad enough to keep the music down
Since music comes from the soul inside
She couldn’t kill it all, … but man she tried!
