"CD Review (Hear Say)"

... I would say, About time you finished your new full-length, Joey! But since recent North Crowley High School grad and University of North Texas student Joe K plays every instrument and really, really well I cant come down on him for taking his own sweet time with recording. Churned out at producer extraordinaire Bart Roses First Street Audio near TCU, Stuck in a Beautiful Cycle is full of punkish, rocking pop tinged with flourishes of piano and grounded by powerful stickwork. What Joe K does exceptionally well (other than play every friggin instrument) is craft the kind of huge, steely hooks that are both economical and melodic. If youre taking bets on next years Music Awards in the Album of the Year category, you cant lose with Beautiful Cycle. The Dallas c.d. release party is Saturday at the Curtain Club, 2800 Main St. (214-742-2336), with Union, Villain Vanguard, Darcy, Hugonaut, Valeyra, Junes Descent, and Troubled Mind. ... "The Joe K Experience"

The Joe K Experience has taken over the local club scene. When they are not playing at the Door or the Aardvark, they can be seen walking around the University of North Texas campus.

Because most of the group graduated from North Crowley High School, they have quite a following. Their unique sound reflects their influences the Rocket Summer and Jason Mraz, to name just a couple. It has a powerful influence that'll have you singing their songs in your head for days.

Their next CD, Stuck in a Beautiful Cycle, is in the works and is scheduled to be released soon. You can listen to exclusive tracks at www.myspace.com/joek music or www.purevolume.com/joekexperience. Read their bios and check out club dates at www.joekrock.com.

"Hear Say"

Next door at the Aardvark this Fri. is an example of what happens when a youthful musician finally gets out of music theory class. Young Joe Kirkland, the frontkid of the pop-radio-friendly Joe K Experience, is a burgeoning heartthrob. A tousled-hair graduate of the John Mayer School for White Boy Soul, Joe K can excite the ladies by either turning his fresh-face from them and singing angrily toward the heavens or looking deep into their eyes and petting his guitar as if he were polishing a Grammy award. The guy really shouldnt be trapped in a classroom chair hes got energy and decent pop songs and, so far, one great pop number, Guilt Trip. Joe K has five Metroplex shows over the next month and is releasing Climbing Towers, his full-length debut on which he plays every instrument. (Hes been a musician since childhood.) With a backing band, he plays with Committed, Old-School Demi, and Armanda the Beat, at 2905 W Berry St, FW (817-926-7814). Visit www.myspace.com/joekmusic.

Bio

Joe Kirkland began writing music on the piano at the age of 12. Soon after, he began to teach himself guitar, and eventually the drums. At the age of 16, Joe took a loan from his dad, and recorded an 11 song, very rough CD in two days. In three years time, he took every opportunity to play live, paid his dad off and went back into the studio again, and began to establish a fan base in Fort Worth. Now 19, he is making a name for himself through his music at the University of North Texas, and has just come out of the studio with his very first, full length album, "Stuck in a Beautiful Cycle." His positive music that sounds like a mix between Jack's Mannequin and The Rocket Summer definitely sets him apart from other bands, besides being a one-man band...
