Joel Ceballos

BandPopAdult Contemporary

Singer/Songwriter mixing traditional folk with rock, pop and electronic elements. (Duncan Sheik, John Mayer, Sarah McLachlan, Five For Fighting, etc.)

Biography

Singer-songwriter Joel Ceballos has been delicately crafting his music for the last ten years in the rigors of the LA music scene. Perfecting his dynamic live performance at many popular So Cal venues including The Coach House, Knitting Factory, & The Mint. In 2003, Joel’s successful debut ‘Between Dark & Light’ was greatly received amongst industry peers and quickly made him a fan favorite. The self-released record gave Ceballos the opportunity to share the stage with the likes of Maroon 5, Duncan Sheik, Alice Peacock, Los Lonely Boys, and numerous others. The record also helped lay the groundwork for brilliance to come and garner the attention of independent label Rise & Fall Records.

His sophomore effort ‘Nocturnal’ is, by its very nature, the core of all things human. Both insightful and inspiring, it challenges the listener to take a deep look into themselves and the world around them. Taking on the role of producer, Ceballos set out to capture a heartfelt snapshot of the turmoil that exist today and the hope that exists for tomorrow. The end result is a musical and intellectual record that exemplifies why we fell in love with music in the first place.

Lyrics

Spring & Bewilderment

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Here in the cold the wind blows slowly
Here, there is no sound of life moving around
And you begin to wonder what’s happened
When everything fades to grey like winter

There’s no telling what makes the wind blow
The way that it does
Withered & dry until spring arrives
And moves us towards the sun

Here in the calm the time goes slowly
Here, there is no trace of love to be found
And I begin to wonder what’s happening to me
When everything fades to grey like winter

There’s no telling what makes the wind blow

If you rely on living a lie to try to make you belong
Then open your eyes. The future is bright
And know it’s worth holding on to
Hold on. Someday you’ll feel at home

I Believe In Love

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Starlight, Star-bright
Won’t you shine tonight and keep this love alive?
Only just for a little while longer

Shine bright starlight
Nothing’s as you’ve proved to be
A sign of truth inside the light
To blind the misery in mystery

I believe in love…
Love everlasting

It’s all right my friend
All things have to end for life to start again
Empty hearts will soon be full

The world at war & all her people turn away
Another ordinary day
But human nature says these wound will heal in time
Give it time

I believe in love…
And love believes in you

All I Have

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Take me out of this box & show me real life
It’s been so long
That now I feel this heart just might give out
At the sight of daylight

Show me a beautiful world I am ready
But don’t you dare leave out a thing
I want to be breathless
I don’t want to be alone for this

I am not a man who can justify his actions
But I can’t help the way I feel with that sky
And your eyes

It’s time for us to go our separate ways
And I guess, live our lives
Before we have to say goodbye
I want you to know that you were my favorite
And you’ll be my favorite for all time

So thank you for showing me a life of happiness
I wish it could go on like this
But it’s all a lie and it’s all I have

Strangers

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Call me a fool. I don’t really care
I’ve tried being cool
But I’m just not there
Forgive me for speaking
Would it matter at all if I took the fall?
Safe from the outcome of body & mind
We’re strangers connected through previous lives
Torn from the darkest dream you held inside
True – we all fall apart

Hold my hand I can’t make it alone
I know we’ve just met so hello
By the way, did I say you sure look familiar
You remind me of someone I know
Or used to anyhow

This will make sense when you clear your head
And look past yourself for a single moment
Forgive me; I hope that I have not scared you
Are you letting go?
Is it all that bad to help out a friend
With nowhere to go & no one to mend
A broken soul that’s lost it’s way & starving for truth
You’re not alone

Hold my hand I can’t make it alone

Deep down we are all afraid
Deep down we all are the same
Deep down we are all afraid
Deep down… we are angels… to strangers

A Thought at Midnight

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Another year. Another story to tell
Another life. Another love has gone to hell
Still she looks so beautiful when she turns to walk away

Another time. Another wished-for song on her lips
Another life. Another lie with a kiss
And the promises we promise not to keep begin to form
If I had any sense at all I’d walk away

Hollow Words

Written By: Joel Ceballos

You always made it look so easy
To just pack everything and get up and leave
But did you ever stop to realize
That there’s a beauty within every darkened dream

Did you runaway from something real
Just to customize what you could feel
Or did the nighttime leave you all alone
Or so it seemed to be what you believed

But still I’m waiting here for you
Just waiting…

For you to turn around and see you smile again
And hear you say ‘hello’. This shouldn’t be the end
But will you come around and forget what’s been said?
And never say goodbye we don’t have to pretend

You always seemed so high above me
I always thought that I should be the one to leave
But never did I cease in showing love and affection
Through your harder times like these

But now I’m trying to remember
The last thing you said as you walked out the door
But all your hollow words confuse me
And help me to see that I don’t need you anymore

But still I’m waiting here for you
Just waiting…

For you to turn around and see you smile again
And hear you say ‘hello’. This shouldn’t be the end
But will you come around and forget what’s been said?
And never say goodbye we don’t have to pretend anymore

‘Coz it’s no good to sit around and waste away the day
Who am I fooling? There’s nothing I can do it will never be the same

Will you turn around and will you smile again?
And will you say ‘hello’. This shouldn’t be the end
But will you come around and forget what I said?
And never say goodbye we don’t have to pretend

Will you come around?
Will you come back down?

Far From Home

Written By: Joel Ceballos

She dreams of leaving
To somewhere far away from here
But she can’t dream now of anything
No, she can’t dream

He tells her stories
Of nights when he was lonely
But he can’t sing now for anything
No, he can’t sing

Did you let her runaway?
Or did she slip right through your hands to face the winter moon?
Did you throw it all away ‘coz night defied your plans?
You really were the fool

She’s off to find herself
And broaden her horizons
In New York City
Where she can be young and free

He lies in bed now
Haunted by the memory
Of her mystic beauty
And what he said to make her leave

Did you let her runaway?

Did you let her runaway?
Or did she slip right through your hands to face the winter moon?
Did you throw her heart away when night defied your plans?
You really were the fool… all along

She dreams of leaving
To somewhere far away from here

Morning Light

Written By: Joel Ceballos

It seems to me its fair to say it’s over
When that morning light begins to hit your face
I know that something good is just around the corner
In some other one’s warm embrace

I can’t complain if somehow I want meaning
Merry-go-round you’ve really spun me out of place
Now my heart is feeling dizzy from the moment I lied to you
And swore I wouldn’t lie to you

I can’t let my guard down
This pulling me is pushing me away
I won’t let my love down
It’s only on display and it’s only mine to break

If you ever need to hear an explanation
You know the music of my heart is set on play
I may not understand the universal language
But the part where I walked away is the place that I should’ve stayed in

I can’t let my guard down
This pulling me is pushing me away
I won’t let my love down
It’s only on display and it’s only mine to break

Tonight I’ll be yours, but tomorrow she’s mine
She is mine. Tomorrow I’ll be fine again
Without a sound she’s burning like a fire in my hand
She’s a fire in my hand and I’m afraid…

I can’t let my guard down
This pulling me is pushing me away
I won’t let my love down
It’s only on display and it’s only mine to break

I can’t let my guard down
This pulling me is pushing me away
I won’t let my love down
It’s only on display and it’s only mine to break

It’s only mine...

Twilight

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Here we are among the cheats & liars
A sea of color in black & white
We both know it’s not where we thought we’d be
But something’s twisting what we believe

It’s in your eyes
It’s on your lips
I feel it burning with every kiss
It’s in the air
It’s all I see
Slowly changing the heart of me
Is this love again or merely fantasy?

I’m on to you so turn me inside out
I think we must be losing
The fires almost out
So let’s wait for this blow over

I can’t wait another lifetime
I’m ready to fight
Let’s keep it in line
Tell me what’s wrong & what’s right
Here I am
Is this what you hoped to see?
Slowly changing a part of me
Is this what you want or what you need?

I’m on to you so turn me inside out

Until we can see the sun still rises
Discovering me in pieces I’m hiding

I’m on to you so turn me inside out

Light The Sky

Written By: Joel Ceballos

Shine on. You are my guiding light
My northern sky, lead me home tonight
Shine on. Brighter than all the rest
You leave me here, it’s clear
With nothing but the best of times…

The days when we were younger
Were filled with such belief
That every bad decision
Would somehow set us free to dream

And all our fruitless struggles
Were never to be won
But held onto forever
And beautify the song

We shine on. A piece inside
We shine on & light the sky
