"Joel Krivy - Bluesman"

Remarkable bluesman Joel Krivy performs to celebrate his debut CD release, The Radiation Sessions, live on Steve Fruitman’s Back to the Sugar Camp, this Thursday @ 6pm, CIUT-FM 89.5 - Jeff Kirby - http://itsakirby.wordpress.com/2007/11/28/rad-blues/

"“long line of kooks”"

Dr. Joel Krivy, of King City, Ont., tells his daughters Kate, 15, and Leni, 11, stories that centre around the “long line of kooks” his family has produced, from his cousin Gladys who taught aerobics until she was 83, to Cousin Leon, King of the Rumba, and his uncle, who ran for the Communist Party. The underlying message, though, is that individuality is accepted and, indeed, promoted in this family of freethinkers. - Originally published in Today's Parent Family Living, Winter 2005

"Joel Krivy Blues in King City"

Kingfest Music Festivals - 2005, 2006, 2007. Joel Krivy's set combines unique solo treatments of classic delta and ragtime blues material with original compositions highlighting his focus on the roots of blues and folk music. Opening for such notables as Toronto Mass Choir, Mike Stevens and Raymond MacLean and Sylvia Tyson's group, Quartet, Joel showed himself to be a highly polished acoustic guitar player with an engaging vocal style and stage presence coupled with well developed song writing ability. - Joe McDonald - www.phpro.info

Bio

I'm a proponent of the solo finger style tradition in the style of the classic bluesmen and traditional folk singers. At its best, my music attempts to include both independent bass and treble parts as well as rhythmic playing to develop interesting arrangements. I'm also able to improvise within this framework. I also am a doctor of Family Medicine who recently was treated for Cancer and am presently in remission (hopefully cured!). Ironically, it was while I was off from work that I had the time to devote completely to music, after having played for many years and was able to release my first CD, The Radiation Sessions. Music is Medicine.
