Bio

Joel Uritescu grew up with a tune on his tongue whenever and wherever he was. Without a second question he would tell people that he wanted to grow up and become a performer. This desire switched back and forth from music to theater and back to music again consistently. All he knew was no matter the size, he felt at home on a stage. It was comforting and terrifying all at the same time. Although he still has a great appreciation for theater and the work of an actor Joel knows that he is most happy when he can share his musical creation with a public audience. When asked what he considers a necessity Joel responded with “Music is my bread and butter, it’s better than the real thing.” Writing music has been a major role in Joel’s life from the time he was ten, and he started to write because “it just seemed like the thing to do, I mean at that point and time in my life I thought everyone wrote their own songs, so I thought I would start.” Music is the way Joel creates and the way he pulls himself through certain situations. Joel’s history with pop music and his exposure to electronic, jazz, folk, funk, and musical theater composition has created the sound and style he writes with today. He is always looking for ways to improve and change what he creates, and living in New York City has allowed him to open up to a world that he had yet to experience until now. Joel draws influence from many strong female vocalists of his generation and generations past. “I don’t know what it is about strong female vocals they give me chills every time, I like to listen to music I can sing along to and songs like Try (Just A Little Bit Harder) by Janis Joplin get me going every time” Says Joel. The music on his debut album “Motions” shows a mixture of Joel’s musical range with songs like “Trouble” that have a country rock feel, and “All We Have” with a more traditional pop rock sound. A piano and microphone are all Joel needs to show people what is he made of.
