Biography

It didn't take an expensive image consultant to come up with the name, Joe Mejer (pron. "major"). That's his real name. Besides, who would need to worry about "image" when they create music that's already fashionable in itself? Donning a motley of musical influences from Arlo Guthrie to Outkast, Joe Mejer's music fuses the fun with the madness, the anxiety with the despair, and the revolution with the guitar. Learning how to play the guitar at age 16 boosted Mejer's interest in soundscapes. Over the next few years, having mastered the congas, maracas, and bongos, he'd find himself doubly enmeshed in South Bend, Indiana's burgeoning, local-music scene by playing in both a church worship band and a “jazz/funk fusion" jam band, Different Folk. Mejer then relocated to Durham, North Carolina. Only a few years later, and with the addition of electronic drums and synthesizing, he carved out his first solo LP, "Experimentation", on his own independent imprint, Wildwood Records. The title, "Experimentation", may come off as a disclaimer, but Mejer's guitar-plucking instrumentals, accompanied by a lustful penchant for futuristic folklore, speak for themselves. Without sounding too distant, Mejer finds a way to hide inside of his songs, blending in when necessary, but peaking out when he wants you to find him or to feel what he's saying. Currently, while working with other musicians, he’s working on a solo EP more grounded in live instrumentation.

Lately when I wake up in the morning I can hear the bird’s song that they sing
I feel so blessed to be alive, alive, alive
You know for that I’ll strive, I’ll strive

Now its 1 a.m. in the night time
I’m not worried if all these lines rhyme
You showed up exactly on time, on time
And I feel, I feel so fine, so fine,
It’s all in my mind
And I’m fine

When I rise in the morning I begin to sing with the birds
You know my dear you have the sweetest voice, sweetest voice I ever heard, I ever heard
In the morning so sweetly, so sweetly, sweetly so
And I want you to know that I love you yes I do
And I know that you love me to
You know it’s true

Some may underestimate the power of our voice
I am just learning nowadays in so many ways nowadays right now, right now, right now
Gonna make it somehow

What im trying to say is that we all need, need, need each other
Sister and brother
We’ve got to keep on keeping on, keep on, keep on, keep on movin on, movin on
Continuing is part of the transition, continuing is part of the transition

Continuing is part of the transition yes it is
Continuing is what you must do
Positive frame of mind
Keep on, stay strong, listen to the song and you can’t do wrong

Many moons ago

Written By: Joe Mejer

Many moons I’ve seen
Many rivers and streams
I’ve laid down beside and dreamed sweet dreams of you, sweet dreams of you

Many moons ago
A love that I do know
She flew to me
So tenderly

Chorus,
A world that lacks pollution in the air
I know yes I know that she is livin there
With beautiful flowers in her hair…so fair

I was shortly in her world
Golden secrets I was shown
Only got to play
She would not allow me to stay
In her world, in her world

Chorus,
A world that lacks pollution in the air
I know yes I know that she is livin there
With beautiful roses in her hair…so fair

Chorus,
A world that lacks pollution in the air
I know yes I know that she is livin there
With golden flowers in her hair…so fair

It’s a hundred and one, a hundred and one again
And I don’t mind, I don’t mind my friend
And it’s a hundred and one, a hundred and one again

I know, I know, I know, I know

A hundred and one again
And I feel fine, I feel fine my friend
It’s a hundred and one, a hundred and one again

I know, I know, I know, I know
A little something you’ll never ever know
