Bio
Performing nationally for over 7 years, Joe Sweet started his musical career at the age of nine in Frankfort, NY. Landing lead roles in his grade school operettas to making all state in chorus, Joe focused his energy on singing and writing originals. He recorded his first piece with the former band Nine Ball which led him to a 1995 SAMY, (Syracuse Area Music Award) nomination for best male vocalist. Nine Ball started to gain momentum and received attention from both independent and major record labels. They sold out their first run of tapes within a year. Since then Joe has been playing with Jomama and the Funkdaddys. The band recorded their first album, (Live at Tiny’s) in 1999 and it sold over 1000 CD’s in a short time.
In 2001 Joe went into the studio to record his third release “Sounds” with his side project, Jomama and the Soultrane. While recording their album, Joe and the Soultrane were nominated for a SAMY. This time for “best jam band”.
Acoustically Joe has performed with the likes of Galactic, DJ Logic, Keller Williams, Charlie Hunter, Tim Reynolds, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Soulive, Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, Vince Welnic, Dark Star Orchestra, Max Creek, and The New Deal, The Legendary Wailers, Otiel and the Peacemakers, Al and the Transamericans, Donna the Buffalo, and John Brown’s Body.
What’s going on now?
Joe is in the studio finishing up his debut album Hear It Is, featuring Gordon Stone on pedal steel. He is touring acoustically, and playing with his band Jomama and the Funkdaddys. The Funkdaddys just played the moe.down6, held in Turin, NY with your host of course…moe. On the ticket is all time favorites The Violent Femmes, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, Keller Williams, and the North Mississippi Allstars.
In September Joe and the Funkdaddys will be playing the Adirondack Music Festival with The Slip, Burning Spear, Arrested Development, and comedian Jim Breuer.
